Unhappy need advice on car repair /exhuast

okay i had bought a 97 camaro that was totaled and ive been rebuilding it - well im at school and my 94 camaro crapped out and i had to sell- well being at college my mom and dad made arrangements to have a mechanic finish all mechanical stuff and make sure it will pass inspection and a body shop to paint the car .

just got a phone call that mechanical and heres the qoute:

29 for new ebrake cable
60 for a sensor (parents didnt remember which one)
70 for rear brakes
and about 330 for right exhuastmanifold
and 330 for labor on the manifold

well thats 660 for a leaky manifold which is just going to be stock... i see no point in this seeing how soon as it passes inspection my SLP loudmouth cat back is going on and my offroad y-pipe... i would much rather put money to headers.

okay my question is this - i have a week to decide what to do - are there a set of headers on the market that will bolt to the stock y-pipe and pass a salvage inspection - if so how much

and do you think it would be worth doing the job ourselves?

im sold - just need to makes sure im not thinking about doing the wrong thing here

If you relocate the cats you will fail a strict emission test, so shorties may be your only answer. You need to do some research on what they look for. If it's just a sniffer, just get some LT's and throw a cat on there somewhere.

thats why im hesitant.....

just was wondering if anyone had any info
