Need Advice!

Hey everyone,
Got a stock custom metallic blue 95' Z28. I was looking at the STS Turbo system and been saving some money to get it. But talked a guy the other day and he said I should just get my engine stroked and put some LT4 Heads on there. I was needing some advice about my engine being stroked. Im not familiar with it at all.....Also, he said it would get me atleast 150HP when doing this.

Please help..

Depends on what you are after and how much you have to spend.

To begin with I would want a platform that was in tip top shape, i.e, the car itself. If it is not in good shape, I'd opt for a newer one with low mileage or consider an LS1 if I like the body style.

Next determine what you intend to do with the car, i.e, daily driver, street and strip, strip only, etc.

Once you determine how you intend to drive it and what kind of performance you expect, then you determine the best way to get there.

Example: I wouldn't even consider boosting a high mileage engine and besides that you would need to reduce the compression ratio anyway. If you were going natually aspirated, you wouldn't need to go with other than ported stock heads and not Lt4s.

If you planned on stroking an engine, i.e, shortening the stroke to increase the displacement, you are going to get into some heavy duty work and costly too---so first answer the questions above and then the guys/girls on the site will give you some opinions on how to achieve your goals. JMHO

well it will be a daily driver. Mines a 94 z28 with 104k miles on it. A guy can storke the engine with new injectors and cam, for around $500 as long as I bring him just the engine. It will be a 2 week job.

I just wanted to know some more information with doing all this. Will this be an ok thing to do?

No way he is going to stroke your engine for $500.

injectors alone are $300 for 42lb Ill say $250 just incase you go smaller.

A quality cam id say is ATLEAST $200. That does not include the new crank, bearings, seals, huge amount of other stuff that you will find later on.

Its simply not possible. I think the mechanic is telling you a line of lies. Also, only way your getting 150hp from getting your engine "stroked" is if you do cam and have the heads heavily ported.

Also boosting a high milage lt1 IMO I would not do. With a 10.5:1 compression, non forged pistons, makes for a bad turnout sooner then later. Id also stay away from LT4 heads, just port the stockers, or go aftermarket, like AFR or Trickflows, I also believe Dart makes one but we have not gotten any mass results.

Also, while were on the topic, if your engine is built for boost (turbo) then it will far surpass your typical stroker engine by several hundred horsepower IF you run high enough boost.

Also, keep in mind if you build the engine the rearend and transmission will also be taking a beating.
