Mystery misfire and general trouble..
This is a repost of sorts as my last running thread was getting so long and kind of random I figured poeple were shying away from it, being as I hadnt had a responce in days and days. If this is a problem I apologize to the mods and of course, feel free to merge this.
Ill try to be concise.. Im long winded so its harder than it should be, ha.
'97 Trans-Am, 6 speed. TF Elbow, Flowbastard Catback, drop in K&N. 130k.
Ok, Symptoms:
Slightly high idle, 900rpms-1100rpms
Surge below 3k RPM's, most noticeable around 2-3k
Feels 'flat' above 2k-ish. Just doesnt pull.
Seems to be misfiring, most noticeable at 3k and under
Little power. Pulls, but you can tel its got more, wont spin at all in second. 1-2 shift off the rev limiter barks and thats it.
Hesitation on dumping the pedal.
Seems to be running very rich below 3k, most noticeable at start-up but very well may be that its not running rich, its just not igniting alot of the mix. Will pop and backfire in the exhaust if I rev and let off quickly.
Codes:
P0300 Random Cylinder Misfire, History as well as current.
Code pertaining to downstream o2, bank one, not relevant as I understand it.
New Parts:
Plugs
Coil
ICM
Fuel Filter
Assorted Vac lines
Throttle Elbow (now the trickflow unit)
MAP Sensor (started throwing a code just today, replaced and it helped but not a whole lot)
Ok.. Suggestions folks? The car really doesnt have the pick up it should and I worry about driving it around much like this.
Im still going to replace the plug wires and TPS sensor. The TPS isnt throwing a code but I work with 5.0's alot and I've had more than one come to me with issues similar as far as the way my throttle behaves and it was the TPS. It gave a code, but who knows? I dont think its the wires simply because the problem seems to be more pronounced at times, and the wires are less than 5k old according to the old owner, but they are gonna get replaced regardless. The surge almost makes me think fuel issue, Ive known clogged or failing pumps to do this, but this is usually characterized by increasing with RPM, not getting better like mine does.. I'm going to check fuel pressure just to be sure as soon as I can get to a tester.
Opti is new, 5k or so, original owner replaced it at the same time as the plugs and wires.
ANY suggestions would be great, this is my DD and Ive been missing school (my school is about 90 miles away) because I worry about it crapping out on the highway an hour from home.
THANKS!
