It is probly the seal between the opti and timing cover, you could have put the opti drive cam in the wrong hole in the opti and the opti dosen't have a tight seal with the cover. It also might be that, that seal is just trashed and you need a new timing cover.

Did the new opti fit flush on the mouting holes and not?

Yea it was flush, but she has 172,000 miles on her. Seal I suppose, can it not be changed? without buying a new cover?

It can be changed without replacing the cover. But I don't know if you can do it without removing the timing cover though. Call Jason Cromer for your parts he is way cheaper than your local dealer. I've done them twice now and it was pretty simple.

You will just have to take the opti off again. No need to take the timing cover off. The seal is a couple of bucks. You can get one from your local auto supply if you want. With that many miles, you should have considered replacing the seal when the opti was off.

Oh, I would be sure that is where the leak was, first.

Just go ahead and get a felpro timing cover kit.....and change all the seals while you are there.....No need to ask me why......lol Just better to make sure it is that seal....Jus t do them all to be sure ....it happened to me all along I thought it was the opti seal and it turned out to be wp seal.....so I had to tear it apart again and change it.....So save yourself so time and frustration.....get the kit....

If you are certain that you aren't leaking from around the timing cover I wouldn't change it....that can wait for cam change or something.....But as far as the seals on the timing cover go ahead and change all three while you have everything off.....If you decide to go ahead and change it....if you are extremely careful and not tear the oil pan gasket...you will not have to change it...But its up to you....

At 172,000 miles it is definately a good time to replace some gaskets and seals.

Yea its either the WP seal or the Optispark seal. I replaced my opti put it all back together and started it up and after awhile it was leaking alot of oil. Had to take all back apart and replaced both the WP and Optispark seal and no more leaks. Except the leak at the back of the T-56 I have to replace the seal where the Driveshaft goes in I will replace that this weekend.
