Mysterious oil leak

I've had a very slight oil leak and can't tell where it's coming from. I never have to add oil and it'll drip when it's just sitting. I've wiped down everything and still can't figure it out. What gaskets tend to leak on LT1's? My first guess is the timing cover gasket. Thoughts?

Re: Mysterious oil leak

OH ya been there with the intake leak prior to my ownership. The leak was the strangest thing it would only leak when it wanted to , in this case tho the front of the engine was damp at the intake corners and the rear was damp all the way across, when it went down the back of the heads it looked like head gaskets were leaking. I replaced them and fixed it, now I need theoil level gasket.

Re: Mysterious oil leak

The waterpump seal on my timing cover was leaking. It looked like it was coming from my front main seal. Good thing I replaced them both because when I pulled the water pump seal, it was damaged during the install a couple of months ago. I couldn't see any oil coming from that seal, it was all pooling on the main seal. But as others have stated the intake is a huge culprit. Thats where I'd bet my $$$ on.

Re: Mysterious oil leak

I second that about "The Right Stuff". My timing cover leaked, and it fixed it. When I did my rebuild, I used it on my intake insted of RTV and so far no leaks except for the seal which I replaced yesterday.

Re: Mysterious oil leak

I got a small leak coming from around the crank sensor which is located at the front of the engine just below the timing cover. There's an oval ring on the sensor but I haven't got around to replacing it yet.

Re: Mysterious oil leak

Yea, I had one of those mystery leaks also. Mine was on the back of the intake/ block. I had just a few months prior replaced the notorious intake gasket and was really dreading going thru that again. So i took my digital cam. and started snapping off pix back there before I started pulling things off. Found my problem......my oil pres. sending unit was the leak. Got a new unit, RTV'd it up.....no mo leak.

Re: Mysterious oil leak

About 2 weeks after I brought my car home from the dealership, it started leaking oil. They refused to fix it claiming I beat on it and it passed a 140 point inspection. I wonder how fake that inspection was because all the vacuum lines were cracked. I want to get my oil leak fixed so bad.
