my timing chain broke (pics inside)
its almost impossible not to have some bent valves... sorry to say.
I do not think it ismart to do a cam and head swap on a 150K mile motor.

I agree. Especially at high rpm. My friends old eclipse was idling when his went, he had to redo the whole motor (well timing belt, whatever)

My bros chain broke on his bolt on 94 TA although he had just doen 1.6 RR's and no valve springs and his broke and he had bent valves and had to sand his pistons down where they hit, kind of ghetto in my opiion, but it ran fine after it.
Do timing chains on our cars need to be replaced if it is justa bolt on car? I though they lasted forever, is this a common problem for lt1 cars?

I broke a stock timing chain on my old stock motor. I too had bent valves. Before pulling the heads do a leak down test to determine if you have any bent or not.
Buy the Extreme LT-4 Chain and upgrade the bottom crank gear with the slight oversize one that Cloyes makes for this. It will really take the slack out.

I would not recommend doing a cam swap on that high milage of a motor unless you rebuild the bottom end first...to me it's just too much of a risk of spinning a bearing...

Chances are very very slim that there is no damage to the valve train . You odds are probably better winning the lottery. Tear it all down unless you don't have the time to do it right, but you have the time to do it twice.

I'm sure he has the problem solved by now.
