My take on the 3.73 gears...

I got my car back!!! I figured I'd give you guys my take on the 3.73s with a 6 speed car...there is a difference but it isn't huge...I will say it made sixth gear more comfortable to cruise in on the highway...I didn't think it'd make that big of a difference with sixth but it did and I like it...the overall speed difference isn't much but there is a difference...

I didn't have to pay much because insurance was paying for the labor and the housing because I needed a new one anyways all I did was pay the shop the 200 bucks for the gear set thats it...

Glad you like it. Do you think you should of went with 4.10's? I'm trying to decide on which to go with myself. I also don't want to have to shift into 5th in the 1/4. I assume with 4.10's you would have to.

Depends...if its a daily driver I don't think I'd like 4.10s...3.73's made it that much more fun to drive but I think 4.10s would get old on a daily basis...and yes you would have to shift into 5 with 4.10s no doubt about it...with 3.73's you will if your trapping much above 105 or and still using the 5700rpm redline...

You most likely wont have to shift into 5th if your car is mostly stock. My friend runs mid 13's all day long and just passes through the traps at the top end of 4th. 4:10's are perfect for the sixth speed cars, he definitely has more top end than my A4 with 3:73's. Don't be afraid, you'll thank me after you get your car done. It is a night and day difference.

what is your friend trapping, im trapping 108-109, 4.10+1.00+5700rpm+275/40/17 is only 106, 3.73 are around 114

He traps like 105 or something like that. I'm not real sure, but he is afraid to power shift into 5th because he will demolish his already weak clutch.

I have looked at that fbody calculator. My speed at 5700 RPM is lower than what they give. It may be due to small variations in tire diameter, or my speedo could be off a little too.

it's a combination of both being off...Stock Tachometers and speedos are both off. So you do'nt really know exactly what you're at.

I have a chance to buy a set of 3.73 gears for my car. I have an A4 car with 3.23. Can I simply change gears or do I have to change the whole rear-end ?

IS there any of you that have nitrous and running 4.10's? I have heard that with nitrous stick with 3.73's at the most. Thanks.
