Is this my starter or something else?

When I go to start the car it just clicks. But if I turn it to full start and then back it off a hair at a time I usually get it to fire over. That seems like a switch more than a starter. Anybody else have this problem? I also have a security light problem but thats a separate issue.

When my starter started going out, it would just delay starting at first, maybe for just half a second. Then it would do it a little longer. It would always click though, until one day it would start no more. Replaced the starter and it was all good. So, I would guess it was the starter in your case, though I never tried backing it off to start my car.

Sounds more like the ignition switch is going bad to me, or the lock and tumbler.

Thumbs up

i just replaced the starter on my car last saturday and when it went out it just stopped turning the motor over. It still clicked like it was trying to engage but it wouldnt start. The starter gear in the starter itself would still slide forward but the starter motor was locked up. I think the rear bearings went out of it.

ok on teh security light thing, mine did the same thing, and they dealer said that the computer chip in the key sumtimes goes bad and when the cars computer checks for the right key in the ignition it thinks sum1 is tryint to steal it. But my car also wouldnt start when the light would come on. If you waited 3 mins it woudl go off and then it would start. When i got new keys made it fixed the problem.
