Are my rods worthless now??
Welp... first hints of spring are finally coming around so I decided to pull some of my parts out of storage to get ready for my LT1 buildup. Got to where my new Eagle ES rods were stored and found that a leak had developed in my storage building some time over the winter from all of the ice and snow. The box they were stored in are soaked and the freaking rods are coated in rust. I bought these things last summer and they were perfect. They look pretty much like **** right now.
Would it be possible to have them cleaned up at a machine shop or would it be in my best interest to just use them as door props ?
They look pretty bad by the way, I'm kinda pissed

Try rubbing them down with a rough wash cloth and some oil and then see how they look. Any machined iron will flash rust almost immediately. Next time you will know to oil them down before storage. It would have provided at least some protection from your unexpected leak.

Thanks for the help I'll give that a try tonight after work. I did take a wash cloth and gave one of them a quick wipe down. It did take off the surface rust like you mentioned but there's still some really dark, almost black discoloration to the rod in spots still.
I'll be sure to coat things with a pretty nice layer of oil before I put them away. These rods already had a light coating of oil from when I bought them. Guess that wasn't enough :\
