Are my piston rings just about shot?
Well I have been noticing lately that I am getting some blue smoke exiting the exhaust when I basically let the engine slow the car down. For instance at the track I leave the car in D, not OD & when I cross the traps my car is up around 5500 rpms & I just let off the gas & the engine helps slow the car down. When I do this I get a pretty good amount of blue smoke in my rearview mirror... This is telling me that I have some blow by going on. Am I right? Maybe time for a re-build? 355 or 383?
Thanks
Eddie

sounds like yoru rings, could be valve seals as well but mroe likely rings. as for 355 or 383, depends on budget and what yoru goals are. its not always bets to just build the biggest bore motor you can
i myself went with a forged 355 and 200 shot of nitrous.

Well I might try some new valve seals first. I bought the heads, GTP Stage 2, off another member then I had the heads flowed & cleaned but the guys that cleaned them didn't change any valve seals. They said they cleaned them in solvent that "Shouldn't" hurt the valve seals.... Anyway I was going to go like a 355 or 383 & I just wanna have it strong enough to hold 10 psi of boost or 150 shot. I would,nt want to spend more than 3 - 5 grand on the short block.

go here for your rods
http://www.cnc-motorsports.com/produ...231&CtgID=7154
go here for your forged pistons, trw is what i got, best prices.
www.flatlanderracing.com
stock internally balanced scat crank
http://www.cnc-motorsports.com/produ...646&CtgID=7645
the rods are good to 750hp , the crank is to 600 hp. as for machining costs i do not know, the blueprinting you can do yourself if you have the tools.
but you can reuse your stock lt1 rods and crank if you like. and just get some forged pistons if you wanna save some cash.

Thanks 93formula... Are those the exact Rod's & Crank you are running & you are running the TRW Forged 355 pistions, right? Which part # are you using for the Pistions? Also how is the overall drivability/feel of the motor? Does it feel fresh? Cause that is what I am really looking for......
Dam!! Now I really wanna do this soon....

the part number for the pistons are: L2304F30, exact rods as well. the motor is being assembled in the winter. but i have all parts in my garage and the block is waiting to get machined and the rotating assembly balanced. the crank and rods come balanced but im gettign them checked for true balance. the drivablitly and feel of the motor will depend a lot on your cam and heads choice.
heres the piston price chart:
