Question any truth to this? or just a misinformed vette guy?

there's a guy I talk to at the track once in a while...he has I believe a '95 vette. It's an LT1 with a similar level of mods to me. He runs a lil slower than me though for some reason. anyway...

Yesterday he showed me that he got some 1.6 roller rockers. I asked how much that set him back, he said whatever, $250 or so for the rockers, and $400ish for the install . I asked why he didn't just install em himself...cuz just looking at it, the engine is so easy to get to, and you could prolly have the valve covers off in 5 minutes. He said "any time you disturb the valvetrain like that you can throw your timing off, and you hafta line up the #1 cylinder again or it'll misfire on you" . I said "uhh...if you're talking valve timing, the cam and crank are synchronized by your timing belt, you're not gonna throw that off by changing rockers...and spark timing goes by the signal from the opti, which is also unaffected by your rockers". He insisted that switching rockers would throw your timing off. Unless he's just saying you hafta set the valve lash right, but that's no big deal...so is he dumb, or am I?

He is, but given that he is, it sounds like $400 well spent

Damn... I 'd be more than willing to undercut his current mechanic and set the guys valves for $399.95
For another $100.00, I can make sure his rockers are a matched set and staggered special.

I sort of understand what this guy was trying to tell you.

Tightening RRs on the LT1 is different than LS1. The LT1s require you to rotate the crank to make sure all valves are closed when tightening the RRs... this is a very simplistic explanation mind you.

The LS1s, I tighten to 22 ft.lbs crank the motor a bit then retighten.

I've heard that if you don't change your glovebox filter, it could mess up your exhaust bearings

I know 1.6 RR's give a HP increase but aren't they detrimental to pushrods over time due to the angle of the valvetrain being altered and run a risk of breaking a pushrod? Or am I misinformed?
