Lightbulb My new Z plans

Looking for some critisizm (spelling?) on this. I only want to get 320-340 at the wheels, on an A4, all while staying emissions legal. I was thinking about finding a set of the LT1 SLP extrude honed exhaust manifolds that they themselves said flowed as well as the shorty headers they sell for the dual cat cars. Then either put in 2 high-flow cats or get the random tech dual cat y-pipe. I was going to get a K&N cold air intake, and an airfoil, as well as possibly a 1LE intake elbow. I want to get either a loudmouth or a magnaflow cat-back. Valvetrain I was thinking, hotcam kit, for the cam, and 1.6 roller rockers etc.. and with a dynotune I think it is possible. Maybe even home port the heads a little. I want to get around 13.0 in the quarter, so like 12.7-13.3 in the quarter. Maybe throw in a stall converter. I ran a 14.297@97.280 with a 2.2xx 60 ft time. I think the car with a good launch is capable of a 14.1 or 14.0 with a 2.0 60ft. Do you guys think the 320 benchmark is a achievable without any porting of the heads with these special manifolds. I really want it to look stock underneath the hood, and sound somewhat similar... I was going to retain the stock tips... I just love these tips on the Z28's. Any thoughts? Maybe a different cam would suit the stock heads better, without taking to much from the stock appeal of it?

Another plan was, if my buddy who works at a gm performance parts dealership, can get an employee discount was the possibility of the lt4 conversion, and doing an engine replica of the 97 LT4 SLP cars.? Thats kind of pricy though even if he can get the discount, probably around 1200 for that, but I doubt they will let him get the discount. Well the first one is around 1200-1400ish and the second idea will more than likely be more. Looking for critizism, so let it all out.

Do all your free/cheap mods first mods, and some suspension mods...mild cam and heads that should give you the desired effect. The hot cam and p and p heads will still make it look stock, and do a pcm tune and some bigger injectors, lca's, sbf/c's, gears, and a stall w/ shift kit adj. t/a CAI and that should get you well within what you want.

Re: My new Z plans

Your car now with a 2.0 60' should be good for 13.8ish in the 1/4...

Get your self :

CAI ~ $200
Converter ~ $400
Gears ~ $200
HPP3 ~ $200 (to correct the PCM for the gears)
Drag Radials ~ $300

Oh yeah..... 320-340rwhp damnwell better get you better than 13.0's... back before my heads and cam all I had on my car is what I listed (and a few other pointless things). I dynoed the car and got a best pull of 262rwhp/292rwtq with a slipping tranny and the very next day ran a 13.216 @ 103.97 with a 1.876 60' all on a slipping tranny, so if you get your 320-340rwhp and keep your mind set on 13.0's you will be very surprised, lol.

Re: My new Z plans

I dont really want to get gears or a convertor if I don't have to, I was hoping a cam swap, 1.6rr, exhaust, intake, could get me somewhere around a 13.0? If a convertor is a must as well as gears, what would be a good stall speed? and who would you reccommend? With gears I would imagine just going with 3.42's? or maybe 3.73's. Any suggestions? Anyone have info on these SLP extrude honed exhaust manifolds?

Re: My new Z plans

I'd go with a 2800 stall, my opinion on those is biased because there is a shop in Houston that will custom make you one and they are very reputable, as for the gears... 373's is the way to go with an auto. I'm sure we all agree on that, maybe some would say to go a little bigger on the stall but I'd Thats' just my thoughts...

Re: My new Z plans

You'll need to port the heads to reach your goal. Also, get a 2800 stall, it's not that bad. 3.23 gears will be fine with it. I've got the HOTcam and some homeported heads, and it still has fine low end. I can lug it up hills with the converter locked at 1500 RPM, no problem.

The LT4 conversion is tempting as well. It might save you some money by not having to pay for machine work on heads you port.

Britain's on the northside...just tell 'em what you've got and tell 'em what you want out of your car and they will make it for you.
