Is it in my head that my Z is really that fast.

I bought this car from a Chevy dealership with no history and at the same time drove LT 1 Corvettes and a Nissan 300ZX twin turbo. I decided on the Z, because of more bang for your buck. Having driven it for 6 months now, I keep thinking there's got to be a cam or other internal engine work done because it seems so much quicker than the vettes and 300Z I drove. I think it could be in my head also though. I know tires and road surface have alot to do with it, and you can't judge the power of a car by spinning the tires, but it spins the tires any time in first and into second. I can be going along 30 mph, stomp on it, drops to first at 5 grand and lights the tires up. I can stomp it down at 15 or 20 and it spins through first and part way through second. I have newer z rated tires. I just feel as though it's useless if I can never get on it below 30, even half throttle will spin them at 10 mph. There is a surge around 3 grand that feels like I'm hitting the powerband on a two stroke motorcross bike, but that maybe the peak torque range. My next purchase is going to be Nitto Dr's. I have never driven another Z to compare. Do they just have that much torque fairly stock or do you think I may have more in it? Just wanted people's two cents.

Sounds right. My car does the same. Traction in 1st is impossible, for me, unless I am under 3k rpm's. Even stock my car could chirp the tires going into 2nd, but now I can do it in 3rd. With a shift kit on the way I will be able to do it going into 4th also.

I've been feeling the same about my new 97 Z.

My only warning... FEAR RAIN! If I put the pedal down in 1,2,3 (over 1.5K rpm) and even 4th(over 2.5K rpm), the rear will break loose (M6 mind you).

In the rain I have to try and keep it in 5th to be safe. Luckily the Z-M6 can roll power on 5th gear from like 20-160 Mph.

As for the discovery of my car, have found the following added:

K&N CAI, Ported MAF, AM Cat Back, Skip Shift bypass, DRL bypass.

Headers are easy to see if they are stock, I am curious about my CAM too, but with stock headers I doubt it. I am going to get a dyno on it to see if it is just me or this thing is as mean as it feels.

6spd z28? auto vettes? That's one. 2nd is you wont get as much traction as the vette because of the suspension. Go against an Lt1 vette with the same tranny and not spin the tires, see who wins. Spinning tires really dosent make you fast. Honda Civix DX's can spin the tires if they pull the ebrake and rev to redline and dump the clutch... Get some suspension mods to put the power to the ground.

lol that's funny man. your car isn't going to chirp 4th when it's basically stock at around 130mph (3-4 shift MPH)

I'm pretty sure those gears woke your car up though. It could also be the tires too, some grab more than others. Just my 2 cents

The two vettes I drove were 92's with auto and stock. They didn't seem to have nearly the pull or throttle response. I don't think either one had the performance axle though. The 300Z was an auto too and that was even less exciting.

Bueller? Bueller?

Hey dude, he's talking about an A4, not an M6... it's a tad bit easier to chirp 4th in an M6 than it is to chirp overdrive in an automatic at 13x miles per hour w/ about 255 rwhp

My friend can spin on the 3-4 shift with his M6...of course his 600 or so hp might have something to do with that...
