My hawks been hybernating for 4 years with a full tank of gas! Is this a problem?

I have a full tank in the hawk which has been sitting up on jackstands for 4 years. My question is, if I need to drain the tank how do I drain 15 gallons?! Or can I dump some gas additive and just change the fuel filter?

Also, since the car has been sitting for this long should I change out the O rings in the fuel injectors? Or anything else for that matter?

Any advice for bringing my hawk out of hibernation is most appreciated! Thanx, Rob

I wouldn't even take the chance...find some way to drain that gas out of there. you coulddisconnect the fuel line and jumper the fuel pump lead to the battery, pumping it all out...just be careful because if you run it totally dry this way it WILL burn up your fuel pump. I recommend getting a helper and disconnecting the line before the fuel filter so you don't clog it up.

Gas sitting for that long without any additive has more than likely broken down and needs to come out of there.

I'd be worried about the seals drying up too...mine sat up for 2 years, and when I finally pulled it out again, it was a oil leaking disaster. Rear main, all the front seals leaked, the rear main leak got so bad that it ruined my clutch after a short while...

My question is, why would you let your car sit that long?

My car sat for about 3 years previous to me buying it. The previous owner wrecked it, then sat it on jack stands until they finally decided to sell it and we bought it. The car cranked right up when we got there, but it didn't run so well. We drained the gas out (wasn't very much in it at all) and put some new gas in and she ran fine, except for a small miss it had from a bad plug wire.

if it was all the way full, it should be ok, so long as no air is in the tank. My fiero sat for almost 5 years while i was building engine etc, with a full tank. It started right up and still got about 250 miles out of the gas.

I would drain it and put it in a beater. I thought I had some bad gas in mine recently when I was having prolems with the fuel pump. I drained about 10 gallons out and put it in the wifes Honda

That's how you do it. Mine has been sitting around since April last year. It wasn't until March this year that it occurred to me, my gas may go bad. I put in some gas preservative, to prevent it from varnish, I still think it was too late. I'll be draining it all out per the method described above.

LOL, nice... I would say change the oil and filter, fuel filter, you could siphon the gas out if you wanted to... maybe it would be a good idea to get a gallon of denatured alcohol from the hardware store for 10 bucks to increase the octane a bit.
