I have been having a hard delayed starting issue for awhile now. Basicly the car cranks fine, but i have to hold the key for a few seconds till she kicks over. So i just put a fuel presure guage on the shader valve, turned the key to the "ON" position and saw the presure shoot to 40, so the pump was done priming she droped from 40 to 0, in about 3 or 4 seconds. I turned her on, and at idle she was at 40 psi. I shut her off, and i know that the FP should bleed out SLOWLY, some people say 5 or 10 psi every hour or so, this droped from the 40 to 0, in about 3 or 4 seconds. Is this the fuel pump, injectors, or FPR? Thanks.

Check your hoses first! I had the same problem, replaced the fuel pump, filter, regulator, and injectors trying to track it down.

It ended up being one of the fuel hoses in the fuel tank.

I did the trap door method on the fuel pump, so I was able to look inside the tank with the key on, and sure enough fuel was squirting everywhere.

I've heard something about the FPR bleeding down thru one of the vent tubes or something?
mine is doing the exact same thing yours is doing, it eventually killed my starter, i replaced it with an LT4 starter and the problem is still there, I dont want to burn up another one! any ideas about the vent line?

I belive your talking about the vacume line on the fuel regulator....pull it off and see if you have any fuel in it ...if there is you need to replace it.

It comes right off the fuel reguator which is located at the back of the intake on the fuel rail....its a small ~1/4 in line that runs to the passenger side of the intake.

Another issue could be the anti-drainback valve on the fuel pump....if its bad guess what...yep the fuel drains back to the tank.

I already have a new fuel filter, what should I change first? Fuel pump? BTW this ALL started after a 2 hour trip down the shore, so the pump could have gotten tired (104k miles on the clock). Whatcha think?

take a pair of vice grip pliers and CAREFULLY pinch off the fuel return line before the pressure drops off. If with the return line blocked this way the pressure holds your fpr is bad. if it still drops the fpr is ok and you need to look at the pump or lines in the tank.

A little more elaboration on what sikz28 is saying:

Fuel system testing
