Angry My hatch attacked me!!!

Is there any quick fix method for keeping my hatch from attacking me while I'm rummaging through the trunk? The thing has wacked me in the head and elbow one too many times and its getting very irritating. I can't really think of anything to do other than try to buy those new shock things, but I'm sure they're overpriced.

Someone make a suggestion before I break something.

All you do is replace the struts.

Hmm, maybe some kind of pole or something to stick in it like you would on a car's hood? Or you could hire a border skipping mexican and just pay him to live in there and hold it up upon request, both options are still cheaper than the new shocks.

I'll hold it up everyday for a year in exchange for a set of long tube headers

a ghetto fix is just keep a wood pole or something in there to use to hold it up...thats what i did with my 82 firebird and it works fine unless you use your hatch everyday....then i guess it would get kinda annoying

Get a pair of vice grips and clamp them on one one the shocks, right under the thick part. Works like a charm. My brothers car has that problem, not mine

GM Parts Direct lists these hatch struts as $28.51 each, plus S&H. Not too bad for brand new parts. I'd bet you pay $20 or $30 for a used pair form a junkyard, and here you can pay an estimated $70 with shipping, and have brand new ones on the car.

PART # 10193275 just in case you need to know.

Omigod, just replace the struts..you'll start tweaking the hinges if you prop it up on one side forever

I do love the topic title though..

Let's take that one step further. If you let him keep a couple roommates in there, you could kick them out in the morning while they go to work (and let's face it, those guys DO work hard when someone hires them), charge them rent, and in a little while you could not only pay for the struts but a new drivetrain and suspension as well.
