My Exhaust
My Exhaust
Far off down the road i am going to get headers, my current set up is:
Stock Manifolds>SLP Y-Pipe>Stock piping and cat converter>SLP loudmouth.
To me that doesnt make much sense, i am going from small, to big, to small, to big. I want to replace the section of piping from the y pipe to the loudmouth. I am probalby going to upgrade to 3in stainless and get a 3 in high flow cat. What do you guys think?
Like i said, headers will not be coming for a very long time, in the mean time i want to try to improve on what i have. How much of a gain woudl i see from adding a larger section of pipe there?

A 3" y-pipe would not hurt at all. If that's what you are looking for I would have a muffler or performance shop custom make you one. You should notice some good gains there. I would also get the high flow cat, or put a ORP in place of it.
You won't notice a huge difference with that if you don't have headers. But for the mean time it will help out a little.
The high flow cat is really the only thing you need. Most headers when you get them come with a y-pipe. So in the long run you might be spending a little more money.

I was going to upgrade the stock I pipe to 3inches because to me it makes relatively no sense for me to have an aftermarket y pipe like i do but then go back down to stock pipe sizing. Would that make any difference? That was my question.
( I want to keep the same y pipe and catback, just replace whats in between them)

Your loudmouth didn't come with an Intermediate pipe?
It seems to me that all you should need to do is upgrade your cat to a high flow, you already upgraded your ypipe infront of it and have a loudmouth cat-BACK.
The furthur from the motor the less pipe diameter you need because exhaust gasses are cooling significantly. IMO just save for the headers because thats where you'll see the most improvement.

Between the Y and the Catback should JUST be the cat, it probly has a 2.5 inch inlet and outlet though.
U can upgrade the cat to a highflow cat with 3 inch inlet and outlet but there around 100$ from what im told, 100$ that could be saved for the header fund

You mean the S pipe, the 2 90 degree bends? http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/b/...elSPipesml.JPG
Did you buy this new or used. My bet is that you got a 96/97 dual cat catback so they left the stock spipe in place. You needed this installation kit.

I think SLP actually has 3 different I pipes available, or Did in the past because they list different part numbers and show a pic of an Ipipe with SPipe for the 94 on their webpage. Now they sell one catback with adapter kits instead of manufacturering the different I pipes.
Does that shed any light on the matter?

Good Post
I did not buy an install kit at all, thats probably why there is stock piping still there. I might have an exhaust shop fab up something, or if i keep it stock will there be any noticable difference?
