Short history. I trashed the bearings in my motor though they never spun. Pulled the intake off and it looked like someone sprinkled glitter in the lifter valley. New motor coming Monday. In the process of cleaning up the lifters, I was blowing into the top of the lifter and on some of the lifters the air would push out any oil left in them from the hole on the side. On about 5 of them I couldnt blow any or very little air out. To me this would suggest my oil passages are blocked. Is there any way to take them apart and clean the passages or do I just bite the bullet. I tried pipe cleaners with no improvement. thanks

 

I would not use any component other than a very well cleaned block if you've had a bearing failure.

The fine particles manage to ruin every other close tolerance piece in the engine.

Replace everything.

 

Comp R lifters are JUNK! Id go with a new set of 850s from Comp.

 

Where did that come from? What bad experience did you have with them? What are the 850's, I thought Comp R's were pretty high on the list of lifters available. They've been good to me so far.

 

Nevermind, I just read and 8 page post about the Comp R's. Do you think the 850 OEM replacements will be okay for a 224/236 XE cam on bee hive springs?

 

Absolutely. I run stockers with my 224/230 XE and have not experienced any problems spinning the motor to 6k rpm but the springs I am using are the CC987s which I believe are every bit as strong as the 918s if you read the specs... some people disagree about that though. The 918s are supposed to be easy on the lifters anyway and some of the guys like SStrokerAce recommends the OEM replacement lifters... they are MUCH quieter than the R series as well.

 

Another vote for 'Comp-R's suck!'.

 

The duration is smaller than my last hyd cam but the lift is more

new Cam 224/236 116LSA XE .606/.628 w 1.6

my old cam was a 24x/25x with just under.600 on intake and just over .615 on exhaust
