1.6 Crane Cams roller rockers

I was wondering if theres any benefits of adding these rockers to a stock bottom end with the stock cam or not.

Re: 1.6 Crane Cams roller rockers

i'd say so if u can get them for the right price. good aftermarket roller rcker arms are nice to have because a stock motor will benefit and a built motor will demand it. its a mod you can keep forever if you choose the right ones. i'd recomend the comp cams pro mags. they are said to be stronger, they hold more lift, and cost less brand new. on a stock motor, cam, and bottom end, you're still gaining nicely. I'd prefer to get 1.6 roller rockers (raise lifta and decrease friction) and complement the rockers with good flowing headers (prferably long tubes) and then get a madz28 or pcmforless tune. by having more lift, and the ability to get rid of the exhaust faster, pcmforless,madz28, or other good tuners have more airflow to work with on the tune. the gains would more likely be 20-25hp from the tune, instead of 10-15 with stock ratio rocker arms. you add that all up and you've gota good power gain. figure 10 from rockers, 20 from tune, and 20 from good long tubes and you have spent your money well. i got my pacesetter long tubes for 359 from speen engineering. paid 119 for the y-pipe. 200 for used pro mags rockers, and 99 for a mail order tune. 778 dollars later you have a good sounding, faster car. best part is...none of these mods really hurt drivability or anything of the such

Yes.

Depending on your other mods, they will add between 5-20 rwhp. Typically, you gain around 10-15 rwhp.

My 1.6 RR's gained me 2+ mph in the 1/4 mile, which is about 15-20 rwhp. I have CAI, headers and a catback though, so I took maximum advantage of the 1.6 RR's with the better breathing intake and exhaust.

1.6 RR's will give you a worthwhile gain in power/performance. I'd HIGHLY recomend the comp cams pro-mags over any others.

What is the proper way to tighten down the rockers.I've a couple of diffrent ways.1 is tighten until there is no play then go 3/4 of a turn more.2 Is tighten down until there is no play then loosen up a 1/4 of a turn.I was wondering how you guys are doing yours.

You tighten till the pushrod won't spin, then 1/4 turn more. Different rocker arms call for diffrerent amounts of how far you tighten them down though.

You will slightly have to modify your valve covers to make them fit. Also what are your future plans for your engine? You may want to convert to 7/16 studs and guideplates and such if your planning on extensive mods in the future. Shoot us an email and we'd be glad to assist you in which direction to go.

Re: 1.6 Crane Cams roller rockers

I wasent planning on doing nothing else major to the car really. My wife bought me a set of chrome valve covers for it,So I figured while I nhad them off I would go ahead and put on a good set of 1.6 RR,But I dont really want to get into a whole lot of work.I'm not really all that skilled on doing things like this thats why I'm asking so many questions because I dont want to mess anything up.What kind of changes do you have to do tot the valve covers to make them work.

Basicly clearence/grinding on the center braces of the valve covers. Also you have to squish the breather on the other side. Do a search for valve cover clearence and that should find you your answers.

Dont forget that their is also two types of rockers: 1) Self Aligning.... 2) Non-self aligning

if you purchase the non-self aligning, YOU WILL NEED Guidplates.....
also note theres 3/8 and 7/16...
some people also recommed that you use hardened push rods.... especially on the NON-SELF ALIGNING

You can read about valve adjusting on my Tech Page. If you don't understand what you are doing, get some help. Some novices have a hard time with valve adjusting. I've seen too many posts as proof.

I also don't recommend putting on 1.6 rockers without changing the valve springs (I doubt you will want to tackle that).

Crane Golds fit without modifying the covers.... Something to think about.

I thought on Comp Cam Pro Mags you tighten the nut down until you feel drag, then do a 1/2 turn, then tighten the lock. I've heard so many different ways I don't know what to do when I redo my rockers.
