Is my car working right??
I have been doing some searching, trying to figure out a miss I am haveing with my car. The missing just started this year, and it seams to be heat related, and outside temperature has a big effect on it.
But what I am asking about here, is that on a few posts, I have noticed that some of you guys are saying you can remove your radiator caps, and watch the water flowing through the radiator. I have never been able to do this. When I remove my cap, I don't see the water flowing, it just kinda pulses. then after the car gets hot, water starts spewing out of the radiator, so I turn the car off, top off the radiator, and bleed it again.
My car doesn't overheat, I got it three years ago, and as far as I know it has always done this. I have a stock thermostat in it, and an aftermarket radiator cap I bought a cople of days ago. in the city, it normally runs about 200 degrees. on the highway, it comes down to about 180. sitting in the driveway, it will get up to the red, then the primary fan will come on, and it will come back down to 180. with the airconditioner on, it stays at about 200.
My question is about the water spewing out of the radiator, and not being able to watch it while idling. In the other posts, it was normally an indicator of a blown head gasket, but I can't imagine I have been driving for three years with a blown head gasket. I have no smoke coming out of the tailpipe, I change my oil regular, and it always looks fine. Any ideas??

Just checked my brothers car. He just had his head gaskets replaced last month, and it does the same thing. The water just sits there and pulses, until it gets to about 210, then it just starts coming out.
You know you just made me realize that I have never done this with my 4th gen. I have always been able to do this with my other cars and just assumed you could with the LT1 as well. The reverse flow cooling may have something to do with this. I will have to experiment a little myself so in the future I don,t give bad advice.
Thanks.
Thanks.
