Well tonight, we had a um airport runway closed down for us and I raced my friends vette. I think its an 01, it has intake, and a catback, and I think it has a tune. For a little background info on my car, I have whats in the sig. Before the dyno tune, ported intake manifold, and 58mm throttle body I ran a 12.4@114 in 80 degree weather. So back to the race. We went from a slow roll, ~30mph, both of us are 6-spds. The first race he was staying right next to me, so in 3rd gear I got pissed and sprayed him. Then we go again, a 2nd time, motor vs motor, 30 roll, and we were DEAD even up to ~135mph, with him inching on me topend. My car doesn't seem down on power, I dunno what gives. Are vettes that much superior to us?

 

you prolly woulda blown his doors off if you started from a stop... vettes cant hook up for ****... I see stock z06s (pre ls7) running the same times as you but the regular c5s arent nearly as quick

 

Thats why we went from a roll he was on street tires. I still would have thought I would have pulled him up top.

 

Thats weird...I have a gm847 and LE2 heads..long tubes,1.6 rockers and stock rear end gears..i RAPED a c6 from a roll and then i raced his buddys c6 with a small cam,headers and exhaust..front a second roll..and i pulled pretty good in 2nd till 3rd then he walked away..but the bone stock one..i walked away from.

 

Well I wanted to get my car on the dyno to see what it does on spray and to check the a/f on spray, I guess I'll see what it does on motor too. It didn't feel down on power at all.

 

I raced a bone stock c5 and I didn't slip the clutch good enough and spun and he still only ended up winning by two and a half cars. Take it for what its worth, my car does run strong and is probably a freak, all the ls1 guys I hang out with always say for an lt1 it runs good, but I should still swap it for an ls1.

I also beat a bone stock ls1 camaro up to about top of 2nd where he started inching past me. I've got vids if anyone wants pm me.

So something tells me this guy has more mods then he told you about.

 

Maybe he has a little more done to his car then he is letting on to have.

 

concur. FWIT, those suckers in a 6 sp can trap 107 stock. add intake, exhaust, tune and he will probably be over 110. also he probably has stock gearing which i think is better suited for roll racing and a strong pull uptop.

 

I have 3.73's, but I shift at 6500, we both ran out 4th gear till the end and shut down at the exact same time.

 

Not to mention the aerodynamics of vettes are a LOT better than yours at those speeds, so it wouldnt be wierd to see a vette motor on you on the top just due to that... Was there a head wind? That also affects your car more than his...

 

Anything can happen on the street, or runway. The best way to run is from a stop and regardless of who has less or more traction the winner is the winner.

 

This isn't a post about roll racing, its about how a basically stock vette was dead even with me.

weird, my car ran dead even with an a4 C5 and my LT1 is internally stock. Ive got LTs with cats, a clutch, and gears... thats about it.
