My 3 Grand Your 2 Hands

Well i did a thread earlier about me having money to blow and well still not sure what to do. I want a fast car but dont want something undrivable on the street. I looked around a little and thought about getting LT4 heads, cam kit, and intake manifold for now but im sure there is better out there. I got mad thinking i may make a bad decision so i thought lets let you guys decide for me. So what i want you guys to do is to make me a small shopping list where the only limits are daily drivability and 3000 dollars.

go open a savings account and leave your money in that, then find a new hobby

$3000 won't go far, so you will end up with a never ending money pit

well im not looking to build a million dollar monster i just want something a little nicer, quicker and better than a stock one or the average guy who throws on an exhaust and intake and thinks he has the fastet car in the world until he actually goes to a drag strip.

Ditch the shorty headers and get longtubes and y-pipe, unless you can't pass inspection with them. Next you could go with a head/cam kit from someone like Lloyd Elliot, but as stated, $3000 won't be enough because you never know what is going to break or fail when you are taking things off or putting them back on. You will also need 1.6 RRs and a tune as well. This is assuming that the shortblock is ok and nothing needs to be replaced.

Ditch the shorties, get a full suspension, adjustable quality components. Get a tune and some 1.6 roller rockers. You will be in a dependable and quick car. Add some spray if wanted. Slicks on stock rims will help at the strip.

Soon after this you will need to spend ~$2k on a 12 bolt of Ford 9" Rear-end

If your maro is your daily driver, spend the money on a decent beater!

Getting a beater (been through two now) is probably the best decision I've made regarding my obsession with f-bodies.

Once you get into heads/cam and all that other stuff it becomes a never ending money pit. 3k isn't even close to enough. Get the beater.

X2 for the beater. No telling how long the more indepth modifications will end up taking. Once you have a beater, get a heads/cam combo.

you have a 58mmtb and a rear end now all you need is ported heads and intake, a decent cam to match. if you will being do the work yourself you can afford a le2 setup or advanced inductions entry level one. you ve got the 4.10 gear needed to rev to 6800rpms and your clutch should hold the power for a little while. i know both setups (le and ai) would roughly run you 2 gs for heads n cam add 400 for a dyno tune, another 400 for injectors and 200 for gaskets and seals. theres your 3 grand
everybodys all over you about your headers but you should be fine, lts would be better but for there only going to be a 7-10 hp difference if you end up in the 380/390rwhp range. keep you slps and resell later for some kooks when you have the money.

You could probably squeeze a mild heads/cam setup with the supporting mods out of that budget, but as mentioned, you are setting yourself up for more work down the road. I second the idea of either banking it or buying a second car before tearing into this one.

Nobody knows what your goals are. This is a repeat of the other thread. Saying "I want something faster" isn't going to cut it. You can go faster with a nitrous kit, be completly streetable and save a ton of money. Go with a simple le1 kit, that should be enough to tickle your fancy!
