my 1st question...batt not charging

I have learned a ton from this site and got a long ways restoring my 97 z28. I hit a snag today though. I have searched for a starting point but keep finding answers that dont fix mine. Among the 1000 things i gotta fix today i changed my serp belt, battery, and altenator. i assumed my dead battery was from the alt not charging and decided to change everything. well i drove the car for 20 min. to have the battery die again. i am assuming that the alt is not charging the batt. Any idea as where to start looking would be a great help. Thanks in advance.

Did you check the voltage at back of alternator? Should be around 13v. I think mine is doing the same thing.

not yet...i wont have my multi meter till i go back to work tomorrow. i was thinking its gonna be something else though with the new battery and old one doing it. i bet my original alt was good. the car stalled going up the driveway, and it started right back up. i parked it and turned it off. when i tried to restart it did nothing. no clicks or anything. all i could hear after i took the key out was a clicking noise from passenger side dash...maybe that meant something..im not good with the electric part on cars.

Re: my 1st question...batt not charging

Next time it won't start go and wiggle the negative wire, mine will do nothing sometimes and i just wiggle it and then it starts. I don't know too much but I'm speaking from experience. I'm pretty sure my nagative cable is bad and corroded and that's why it doesn't start sometimes but I don't know if a bad negative wire can cause it to not charge right. Maybe someone will answer better.

If you can make it to a auto parts store they can check it for free

Re: my 1st question...batt not charging

figured out the problem right after i started this thread...incase it helps someone else, ill let you all know what a stupid thing i did...when i put in the new battery i also used the felt corrosion pads. they were causing bad connections to the battery. i figured it was a simple mechanical error
