My 1995 lt1 cranks but wont turn over! Help!
My 1995 lt1 cranks but wont turn over! Help!
Hey everyone, im new to the lt1 forums but im looking in becoming an active member now that ive picked up my very own 1995 camaro z28 manual. But im having a issue with it, when i purchased my z28 it had been in a wreck from the passenger side headlight and smashed from the headlight to the battery post and since the car accident i havnt been able to get it to start? The previous owner told me it ran perfectly fine before the accident. So i was wondering, is there any kind of important wires that could have been cut when hit that would cuase the car not to start? Ive replaced the opti, battery, icm, when i turn the key to the on position i hear the fuel pump prime and i pulled a few of the spark plugs and cranked the car and i seem to be getting spark, the car will just continously crank and crank and it sounds like its about to fire up but it never does and im just completely stumped on what it could possibly be. Any advice/help about this would be greatly appreciated!

What happens with the "SECURITY" light when you are cranking the engine - stays off, flashes, lights solid?

Have you scanned it for codes? Have you checked the fuel pressure?
When you say "battery post" do you mean the red plastic "+" junction box on top of the driver side inner fender? There are several fusible links attached to the box that supply critical power to items that could be preventing a start. Might want to check that None are damaged.

Re: My 1995 lt1 cranks but wont turn over! Help!
A fusible link fails internally, not by being "cut". Some circuit could have been shorted during the collision, and blew a fusible link.
The fact that the fuel pump "primes" does not mean it is producing pressure, or that the system is holding the pressure. Sure, seems like a waste of time to check it, unnecessary, but you have to start with basics - fuel, spark, compression. You indicate you have spark, not likely the collision affected compression.
A 95 LT1 does not have a crank position (CKP) sensor. It relies totally on the sophisticated optical cam position sensor in the Opti. CKP sensor was added in 1996 models, but only for the purpose of providing misfire detection as required by the OBD-2 diagnostic protocol.
What brand is the scanner? Try using the 12-pin OBD-1 cable, and using jumper wires to make the connection:

Here's how the SECURITY light works. You should see it light up for a few seconds, with all the other dash warning lights, when you turn the key to "run". If you see it light up at any other time, you have a problem that may be preventing the engine from starting.
