They stopped making fox bodies in '93. The 94 Vert is still a 5.0 so it can use a lot of the same mods (read: cheap) but the car is heavier than its Fox counterparts, and being a vert makes it heavier still.

IMO go with whichever car you LIKE, not which one you think will be faster...you want fast go buy a Vega and throw a big block in it...go with whichever car you like more.

I had a 95 GT Vert before this car. Performance parts seem to be MUCH cheaper for stangs, plus I liked the overall build quality of the stang better than my T/A...but I like the looks of the T/A better and I like the out of the box performance since I'm too poor to really mod it much. I don't like the fact that to go fast I'm invariably going to have to replace the rear end in the T/A whereas in the Mustang I wouldn't though...

Its all in what you want, worry about making it fast later

I just bought my second 4th gen , a 97 WS6 for 7500$, I cought it on trade in adn bought it before they did anything to it, its good to look at the back lots at dealershipd for trade ins that havent been detailed and fixed yet, the only thing wrong with this car was the drivers side window motor. Also The 7 1/2 rear in an auto will last into the 11s, when you start using slicks and cutting 1.6 60 footers in an auto is when the rear needs changed, a six speed is a different story, My 7 1/2 in my 93 has over 200 1/4 mile passes on it, 75% of them were with M/T sportsman Pros cutting a 1.8-7 60 foot.

Well since you've owned a mustang I'll take your word.. BUT I thought the sn95 (new body style) came out it 95 with the 5.0? Then came the 4.6... So 94 should be the fox body. I guess I'm wrong huh? Anyone want to clue me in?

Yes the converts are more heavy.. I don't think the weight difference is going to equal one second in the quarter though... so take it for what it's worth.

And the rears do suck in these cars, I guess that's the big advantage of the auto. Consistent launches that don't ruin the rear with drag radials or even slicks. It's not uncommon for m6 guys blowing their rear with drag radials.. the manual trans puts a bigger beating on the rear for sure.

94-95 were SN95 chassis 5.0's

96+ changed to the vertical tailights and modular 4.6's.

As for my choice, I would go with an F-body, the SN95's were heavier and LT1 parts are coming down in price. As for the rear-end, well the 7.5 is a problem, but then again the stang has the crummy T5 tranny.

I don't know if this helps anyone out there but I do know that if you open your glove box, you'll see a bunch of numbers and letters. Look for a number/letter combination that is GU6...if anyone has this that means that they have a 3.42 posi tract rear-end (limited-slip as well)...anything else would be a different code. Like I said...I dont think it will help anyone but is good to know for the new-be's!

I guess it comes to personal preference. I do own one of the 'slug' year GT's, but I can honestly say there's isn't one thing that I like about the GT over my Z, besides maybe the cheaper aftermarket parts. The GT seats are uncormfortable, they don't go back far enough, the plastic trim pieces creak and rattle and it doesn't ride as good over the rough stuff. Even though my Z is 3 years older and has 20,000 more miles on it, it still seems to be a mucher better quality car as far as build. I just seem to get the feeling I'm in more of a sports car in the Z. I maybe a lucky one because everything's still tight and nothing rattles or vibrates on it yet at 88,000 miles. I make the wife drive the GT. Just my two cents, but then again it's what ever makes 'you' happy.

well i don't know how nice your 94 is but if you can get about 5000 from it and 4000 from the explorer you could get a higher mileage low option LS1. On ebay i saw a 98 Trans am a few months ago with 60k miles and a 6spd buy it now for 10000.
