Mustang GT ->Camaro Z28 Transformation

I am the current owner of a Mustang GT and I have been reading up on the Z28's. I would like to purchase a 1993-1995 Z28. From what i hear this is faster than the Mustang GT. Does anyone know where I could purchase one within these years. I also have a 2002 Ford Explorer so I have an extra $4000 to spend on a camaro or buy one from a used car dealer. Any info would be useful. Thanks in advance!

Look on the message boards, autotrader, 93-95s have gotten real cheap. Like 6-7K for some good clean cars. On the boards you can find ton of performance parts used, cold air, headers, cat back, strut tower braces, wheels.

take your money and spend it on your GT. You'll end up with a car that's faster than any stock Z28

Well you have to look around but I would go with a 94 with a 3:23 gears which is (1-2-D-OD) on the shifter colum...Thats what i have by the way.....Umm I wouldnt buy from a used car dealer unless its a big name like chevy or something, do not go to those private used dealers they'll just rip you off with there fake warranties... OR go through a private partys. bought my Z28 for $4000 and also got a system with it with new tires,full tank of gas,recent tune up the works...

Hope this helps

I own both, unfortunately I bought the Mustang first. I took one drive in my Z and realized my GT wasn't in the same class. As you can tell by my signiture below it's for sale. Although I have some mods on the Z, I think I could pull a GT behind me and still beat another GT in a race. The torque alone will sell you on a Z. Check on the for Sale board here and you can find a nice Z with mods. Do a search on the difference's, the 93's are different with speed density from the 94's and 95's. Personally, if you want a 6 speed I would get a 93, an automatic would be a 94+.

I agree. That's why I bought my 96TA instead of a GT. If your not planning on modding it right away or at all, go with the Z28. I think you could probably go faster for less money with the GT though.

I assume you have an 01' GT. If so it is close to an LT1 in performance, and I'd just keep it and mod it.

The Mustang aftermarket is Soooooo much better than the F-Body market for parts, prices, variety, etc.

Look at a Camaro part, exhaust, CAI, etc...and then check the Mustang price I would bet the Mustang is cheaper.
Unless you just have to have a Z28, the GT is still a good choice to mod and build up

Yea, the 96-98Gt's were awful, especially convertible, heavier, and the heads were what held them back. .a 99-up Gt will hold its own against a Lt1 though, found that out when i bought a 03GT last Nov Not sayin Lt1 is a bad buy though, very nice car

As opposed to what? mine goes 1-2-D-OD, so I have the performance rear end? I was wondering how to tell without jacking it up and actually spinning the wheels and counting the turns for the driveshaft to go around. awesome!

Yep, you got 3.23's If it reads 2-D-OD, then its 2.73's.

If you've got a 94 then you've got one of the old 5.0 fox bodies right? Those are strong motors aren't they? and cheap to modify too... I know many fbody owners who are fearful of encountering that sleeper 5.0 - there's one around here in tally owned by this older woman "peggy" runs a blower among other things and puts down somewhere around 500rwhp. If you want a car to modify then I'd say you've got a pretty good one. BUT if you want some modern luxeries - t tops specifically, and a car with lines that'll really get attention then an fbody is a great car. Good to modify also - the LT1's are probably the best in this regard because the mods are so much cheaper and so is the car. However if you want the above but don't plan to mod the hell outta it then opt for an LS1 - hot outta the box. And please do yourself a favor and buy or at least test drive a m6 - not many cars come with one and the sheer coolness of driving a six speed was a major selling point of the Z28 for me (I'm a stick only kinda guy). This is a sports car afterall, if your intent is simply to pickup girls and feel them up while driving then buy a lexus with 20" gold dubs they come standard with an auto to allow for that free hand . Not that the hoe-maro isn't a chick magnet though

Just test drive one..

Got my Z28 for 5200 bucks. 117,000 on the odometer 65,000 on the motor with all the dealership paper work to prove it. 6-speed, Polo Green. Needed a passenger side fog light and a passenger side window motor. Other than that ready to roll, and it does. $5700 after financing at 7.25% for 5 years. Payments are $120 a month. Through my jobs credit union. It booked at $6600 when they appraised it. They are out there. My friend bought a 96 with 70,000 original miles for $6200 last July. Good Luck finding one like you want. They are everywhere, just like you want them, until you try and buy one.
