mustang dyno... are these normal numbers
mustang dyno... are these normal numbers
Went to the dyno today and was a little disappointed. I put down 302.9 rwhp and 315.4 tq. Mods are in the sig. It was a mustnag dyno and the guy said that on average these are 10-15% less than a dynojet. Is this true or was he trying to make me feel better. If hes right and Im actually putting down around 345 rwhp then Im extremely happy. Let me know what you think
I can't help you with the dyno thing i just wanted to tell you your ride is Bad A$$!! I love the shaved door handles thats sweet and the dual exhaust is bad as well. How much did you pay for the shaved door handles if i may ask?
Re: mustang dyno... are these normal numbers
I had the car painted and the handles done at the same time and it was $2800 labor. Thats dissambling the entire car and painting piece by piece. Anyone know about the dyno?
Re: mustang dyno... are these normal numbers
I have heard the mustang dyno's do dyno low, but i THOUGHT it was more like 10 to 15 horsepower low. Your just running stock heads right? If you are, i wouldn't expect to very much from a hotcam...maybe 340 max, i dunno.
Re: mustang dyno... are these normal numbers
I think Ill be looking for a dynojet dyno around here to get those numbers up a bit. Might be easier to sell if I can show a dyno of 340 rwhp instead of 300. Thanks

Re: mustang dyno... are these normal numbers
Headed to national trails raceway on friday to see what numbers I can put down. First time doing a drag so Im not expecting perfect numbers. No idea on labor for shaved handles. I got the door handle kit from autoloc and it opens by remote and also a hidden emergency button. I have poppers installed in the doors so they actual open a little bit. I will see if I can get some pics of them some time. The paint is just a regular PPG automotive paint. You must use a high build flexible primer and get a few coats then sand it to get most of the creases out of it. Then primer a few more times until its completely smooth. You can add some flex in the paint if needed but I didnt add any and it hasnt cracked or anything just be careful during install.

I agree. I had my car dyno'd with the same mods I have now on a mustang dyno. I put down 279 rwhp, I was alittle upset that a car that ran 12.3 at 109 with a best mph of 111, would only put down that much HP. I had the car dyno'd with the exact same mods about a year later and put down 340 rwhp. Both runs were through a 3400 converter and a 9 inch. I probally will pickup alittle more rwhp because I swaped in a t-56 but not really consirned about that. Your car should trap in the 109-112 mph range if I were to guess. Don't get too caught up in dyno numbers track numbers show the real ability of the car

Chuck2...
My auto '96 LT1 to LT4/Hotcam and longtubes put down 300RWHP on a DynoDynamics (eddy current style like the Mustang). Your numbers are fine and about 25-30RWHP less than a DynoJet would show (I've got a bunch of numbers to back it up).
As far as the guy who said this:
Quit being stupid. There are way too many variables "at the track" to accurately determine engine performance. I will acquiesce that trap speed does give a decent rough estimate of horsepower. And I'm positive that major engine manufactureres don't use it.

But who cares how the engine performs if the rest of the car can't keep up? The track is the only way to gauge vehicle performance.
Major engine manufacturers most certainly do put their engines in cars and test them on tracks. They just don't do it to calculate horsepower.
