must have upgrades?

Ok so i have a 97 camaro z28. i got headers, exhaust, cai im wondering what must have upgrades i should get that can make it quicker not just looking for more hp just upgrades that can help with better track times. like what suspension upgrades i should get, gears, engine components ect. im planning on rebuilding the engine and putting a cc306 in it and porting the heads, but until then i want to beef up the necessary things.

Re: must have upgrades?

mail order tune? is your car auto or stick shift? if its an auto how about throwing a torque converter in it. lower control arms, relocation brackets, torque arm, subframe connectors will help at the track.

Nothing wrong with an automatic. They respond well to a high stall converter and some 3.73 gears. There's also a much better chance that the weak stock 10-bolt rear will survive with the automatic, even if you get some really sticky tires.

Re: must have upgrades?

well i wouldnt want to put anything lower then 3.73's in it if you plan on driving on the street. 4.10s would suck gas like no other.

Contrary to popular belief 4.10s won't kill your gas mileage as much as some people choose to believe. It's the increase in "lead-foot-syndrome" because of the gears where 99% of the claims of the loss in MPG comes from.

Re: must have upgrades?

If the rear is stock it's as easy as looking in your glovebox.

GU2 Axle Ratio 2.73, Rear
GU4 Axle Ratio 3.08, Rear
GU5 Axle Ratio 3.23, Rear
GU6 Axle Ratio 3.42, Rear

Re: must have upgrades?

The list of RPO codes is either in your glovebox or on the door jamb. If for some reason both of the labels are missing then you'll have to do it the old fashioned way by counting the rotations of the driveshaft for one revolution of the tires.
