Exclamation Multiple Cylinder Misfire

My car has a tapping that has been getting worse (louder) over the past few weeks, which I and most otherse think is a lifter going bad. So, I plan on doing Cam, Rockers, Pushrods, and Lifters relatively soon.

However, two days ago, I started the car, backed it out of the garage, and all of a sudden the SES light started flashing, then it stayed lit. I was like OK, great. So I pulled it back in the garage. Turned it off, started it again. Light was on. So I left the Camaro in the garage and took another car to where I was going.

Came back later and started the car to take it to AutoZone to have it scanned. Light is NOT on. I'm thinking OK, but I take it up there to have it scanned anyway.

Throws one code: Multiple Cylinder Misfire. So AutoZone suggests plugs or plugwires. I say ok bring it home. Been driving it over the past couple of days, no light. Then all of a sudden last night I'm cruising and the light comes back on. Won't turn off.

So my question now is... what gives? I really don't want to put new plugs/wires in bcuz of the horror stories I've heard, but if I must then I'll do it, obviously.

Just wanted to know if any of you have experienced the same?

Thanks!

Just change em. Its not that bad at all if you have someone to help you who is atleast mechanically inclined. It took me and my friend yesterday about 3 hours to change mine, but we played ping pong and took like 8 smoke breaks. Its not hard at all.

Talking multiple missfire

I have a 94 z28 lt1. It took us about 4 hours to put plug wires and spark plugs. We had to remove to alternator, and idle pulley. My brother laid across the engine in some very uncomfortable positions but we finally got it done.

How long has the tapping been going on. Did you recently get some low octane gas or something where it would've misfired. Did the car miss when the light came on? I would guess something other than spark plugs and wires because it should be doing it constantly if that were the case.
