Mufflers
Mufflers
I have had the flowmaster american thunder on for years now. I want different muffler to change the sound. It is getting to loud, the drone, no flow. I want something that will flow well and be quiet at idle. I just want it to be quiet when I am not having fun with the car. My two choices that I have researched are the hooker aerochamber and a magnaflow muffler. I was wondering if anybody was in my same boat. I am looking for advice/opinions.
Re: Mufflers
Can't go wrong with Borla
Mine's pretty quiet at idle, but growls nicely at the mustangs and imports i'm passing when on it
Albeit a bit more pricey than the alternatives, but all stainless and a million mile warranty.. can't beat that!

Oh man, go with the Hooker all the way...Cheap (
), great flow (unlike the chokemaster), and has the kind of sound/tone you're looking for...
When I bought my '95 Z28 last fall, it was basically stock other than a CAI system and the Hooker cat-back. That exhaust was QUIET at a warm idle (barely any different than the stock muffler) and was relatively quiet at any rpm inside the car. But the Aerochamber muffler had a very nice tone outside and sounded sweet at WOT! Sorry, but I personally do not like the sound of the Magnaflow mufflers on our cars (especially with headers and/or a cam)...
Good luck either way,
Mike

Re: Mufflers
I did not like my flowmaster sound before my headers. Now with cam/headers/no cats I can't complain about the sound. Flow may not be great, but I have a manual cutout just before the axle.
I love my cutout but it is too loud for you at idle. I would take an aerochamber if I could get one cheap/used, but its not worth the gains for the money in my oppinion. For what you would spend swapping the mufflers I would say get some headers first.

Re: Mufflers
I'd like to know where you guys come up with the idea that flowmaster mufflers don't flow well? Where is you proof and/or facts? Most people tell me the usual "well, its what I've been told." To me that doesn't cut it for a reason as to why something isn't a good product. If any of you do know of a reason feel free to fill me in....
