I contacted MSD this morning and spoke with Peter. He told me up-front, "it was my fault for not rechecking the assembly of the distributor." In my opinion, his position was a “total failure” to accept responsibility for their product and that made me very hot under the collar! And, the MSD instructions “do not” state that you need to recheck the assembly. That is total B...S...!

Although, MSD will send me the parts (the new square gasket in-place-of the O-ring, new back-plate and rotor w/ screws) to fix my problem. However, I had to pay for the next-day shipping to get my car running as soon as possible (very minimal product support). I wanted to install the new parts, because I trust myself technically and have no confidence in MSD’s assembly techniques.

Additionally, I was really disappointed with their product support position, which was basically “denial” and to blame me for the problem. No real acceptance of responsibility. I could never get by with that in my professional field, nor would I want to.

If thats the case, maybe persons that have bought the MSD distributor should make a large lawsuit for the inconvience and down time , because of a faulty product with lack of instruction....

Sounds like a cop-out on MSD's part...

What an unbelievable crock. I would have been trying to reach out and touch someone. I guess it's a good thing MSD doesn't manufacture and sell airplanes. I can't see me ever getting one of those reassembled correctly.

In hindsight, I'm glad I decided to go with a GM replacement. The attitude they're displaying with regards to your problem makes me not even want to buy plug wires from them.

I would ask to speak with Peter's boss.

Glad to see you would choose something other than the MSD opti. You would wind up with pics like these on this thread. After what they said to Engineer, I'll never have anymore MSD stuff.

Post some pictures of the Dynaspark when you get it and let everyone know how well it works. Also, what RPM you're turning with it. Apparently, the higher RPM is a major factor in how long the OEM GMs last.

Well that may be the route to go, if it holds up, seeing as i spent $500 for the original MSD unit then another $30 for shipping back to them for warranty repairs!

Well i have a dynaspark and it looked very high quality when i got it,i have only had it on there now for 2 years so i don't want to brag it up to much but so far so good. One thing i will say is that since i have gotten it the car starts alot quicker and it has never had a hitch or miss fire since i put it on,which with the stock opti even when it worked good it would still miss fire every once in awhile. So like i said i can't really swear by the dynaspark but you don't hear nearly as much negative things said about them as you do the stock opti or the msd.

The bad luck I've had with the GM optis and the new MSD with only three runs at the track last Saturday, I would consider "two years" to be some kind of "world record" by my standards!

I've had to change-out an opti after "two days."

Well i think that the dynaspark may be another option for you to think about. Now when i got mine i talked to the guys that build it via email and they told me that if i have trouble in the future after the warranty runs out that i could have the entire opti rebuilt with all new parts and only the billet base plate being reused for $230.00.Now if that is still true i am not sure, and they also said that failures were very few and that most of the failures were caused by the drive pin being to long or cam bolt heads being to thick and pushing the rotor into the cap.Basicly i don't want to be on here trying to tell peaple that the dynaspark is the best,i can only tell you that they used me very good and answered all my questions very professionally and so far everything is working good. But i also got 4 years out of a new stock GM opti before i had trouble so that is why i don't want to say to much about the dynaspark.
