MSD/Crane Ignition Boxes Kill Optispark??

have heard both sides and some swear the box killed the opti. others run them for years with no problems. I wonder if running a high output coil with the box is the cause for the failures - so post up if you know of a failure or have had a failure attributed to the box was it run with a high output coil?

MSD 6A and Blaster coil has been on my daily driver since 1998. Nothing has died so far.

I also have the same exact MSD items on by LT bracket car (6A Box & Blaster Coil). I've checked-out the Opti internals (rotor and cap contact posts) several times and they are like new. Therefore, I believe that is a “complete myth” about the MSD ignition box and coil damaging an Opti.

Remember, Optis fail all the time without the additional MSD parts.

Additionally, the MSD box has nothing to do with the high and low-resolution pulses generated within the Opti. The only change is the multiple spark pulses from the rotor to the contact posts.

I think the multiple sparks wear out the plugs and distributor terminals faster just like the coil wire wears out faster than the other ones cause it fires 8x as often. I think this is why someone developed a switched box that can be bypassed for normal driving like if you want to go on a trip or do some normal driving for an extended period where you dont need the msd. This doesn't mean it wont last a long time though and it's hard to do a direct comparo sinced the duration of the sparks off a CDI are a lot shorter than those from an inductive ignition.
