Which alternator?

For the 94 LT1 there are 2 alternators available and I need to order one. Mine is on the way out. I need to know how I can tell the difference between them without taking it off the car to identify the casting number stamped on it.

Apparently there is a number for design 1 and a number for design 2.

Jason Cromer told me that they both put put 124 amps.

Anyone know?

Thanks

I could be wrong, but I thought the early 94's used the 124 amp and the later ones used a 140 amp alternator...

The 124 amp alternator can be identified by a metal fan and a bolt used to attach the battery cable.

The 140 amp has a plastic fan and a stud to attach the battery cable.

Thanks guys, Shoebox I am honored that you replied to my thread.

I found out that there is an RPO code for the 140 amp, which I do have n my glovebox (RPO KG9)

What is interesting the 140 amp (Design 2) became the only alternator for 95 & up for LT1's; I wonder if there was something wrong with the previous design that they started offering design 2 same model year?

Anyway, I do thank you guys for your help.
