Msd 7531 ignition box

Can I run a msd 7531 box on a lt1. I’m looking to use it with nitrous on the stock motor. I know a digital 6 will work but I can get a good deal from a buddy on the 7531. Are there any issues with the 7531 with the optispark? Thanks

I don't see why not. I would call MSD directly and tell them what you are trying to do. You'll get a direct answer and insight on anything extra you may need (the digital 6 required a pig tail that sits between the coil and PCM.

Also note that the digital 7 is not emissions legal, which may or may not be an issue for you.

Re: Msd 7531 ignition box

Would seem to be total overkill. Do you really feel you need to program an individual timing curve for each separate gear? This is basically replacing the ignition timing portion of your PCM.

All you really need is the capability to pull a few degrees of timing when spraying, to set nitrous RPM activation point, and high RPM rev limiter - all simply to do with the Digital 6-Plus and a window switch. The window switch would also let you shut off the nitrous at an RPM below the rev limiter /RPM. I guess if you can get the 7531 for less than that, it might make sense, but the learning curve looks to be substantial.

But, to answer your question, the unit requires cam and crank sensor input, so you would have to ask MSD if it will accept the high and low resolution pulse signals from the optical cam position sensor in the Optispark. These signals are not used in any other engine. Will be interesting to see if any of the few people left on this site have used a $1,000 ignition programmer intended to totally manage the ignition for Pro Mod cars.
