MSD 6A or 6AL???
MSD 6A or 6AL???
Ok, I'm going out today to get either a MSD 6A or 6AL ignition box. My question is, which one should I get? I know the 6AL has the rev limiter on it but isn't that controlled by the PCM??...If so, then wouldn't I be just as well getting the 6A? Just wondering...........don't wanna go get the 6A then find out I need the 6AL.
Thanks for your input!!!

The stock rev limiter cuts fuel to the cylinders to limit the revs whereas the 6AL cuts ignition. I prefer to cut ignition as cutting fuel can cause a lean condition that isn't healthy for the motor.
I say get neither one. They don't add any power unless there's something wrong with your stock ignition. I've had several fail over the years, sometimes having to bypass them at night in the cold.
Why would anybody want one, anyway?

Below 3K rpm the MSD provides multiple sparks that should provide a more complete burn. This can provide cleaner running (helpful at smog time) and potentially better fuel economy. Above 3K rpm, they provide one hotter spark. I run a blower so it's manditory as a blower can actually blow out the spark. For $160 I think they're a good deal. Finding a good mounting place is the biggest challenge!
Aaaaahhhh. . . Smog time. . . We don't have that here in Louisiana.
Like you, OBE1, I am forced to run one because the increased cylinder pressure from my 14 psi T-trim was putting out the spark. It won't run at full throttle over 4000 rpm without it.
But, as I said, if I didn't absolutely need one to fix some problem, I wouldn't have one.
