MSA 6A - At what point do you need it?

I see a lot of people running MSD ignition systems.
But I'm not sure I understand what I would really gain from it.
(not saying it's not a good mod, just looking for more info)

Can anyone help me out here?

Here the marketing blurb I read when I searched for it

Edit: If this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it.
I am specifically looking for info related to ignitions on LT1s.

It may do those things, but you may not notice anything at all on a stock car. Not really a must on a stock car. If you are heavily modded, it might be of more value.

It's an H/C car, stock bottom end, auto, shifting at 6375.

A heads/cam car or forced induction platform with increased cylinder pressures can see some results from the hotter spark an aftermarket box provides.

The very first mod I did when I bought my 97SS. Whether or not you gain anything, I cannot say, but I wouldn't remove it for the world.JMHO

Buying a MSD 6AL gives you a rev limiter that cuts ignition at the rev set point rather than the stock PCM that cuts fuel, which could lead to a lean condition.

That would be very helpful if I juice it.

If your thinking about nitrous down the road, you'll want more features than the 6AL has, namely the option to retard the timing.

That was my first mod as well. I later took it off because I noticed no gains plus I needed the room for my HID transformers. One week later I filled my NO2 bottle. First run I noticed that I was detonating like crazy. I put the MSD back in and ran nitrous runs without a prob. Sometimes its neccesary but for most its just a nice looking piece under the hood

One of the first mods I did was an msd 6a and 8202 coil and wires. Did not detect an increase in performance. Then I got into FI. I've never had ignition problems except for...
Melting the rotor plastic on the opti. (Fixed with 1/8 alum rivets)
Fowled plugs (bad AFR [now fixed], and use of Zex spark plugs)

Its been running good.

On back to back dyno test on my L98 my MSD6A was worth two horsepower. I dyno'd 330rwhp and 370rwtq that day with an A4 to give some perspective.
