Mr. Shoebox = Mr. Master of Part Location... question!

Was under my Zed on the weekend. 94 Z28.

Yanked the air pump to clean up the engine bay.

There is a small sensor on the driver's side front body, under the cruise. It is plainly visible under the car. There are two wires running to the top of it. On the bottom there are two vacuum fittings. ONE goes to a connection on the OUT portion of the air pump hose. The other side seems to be plugged with a bleed off or maybe a block off piece.

It appears this sensor receives SOME of the air from the air pump, then does nothing to it.

Can you explain?

Curious. Not sure what it is off the top of my head. I do know that the cars that had the AIR pump recall had a little vacuum solenoid added, but it was supposed to be mounted up by the coil. I will poke around and let you know if I come up with something else.

This sensor mounts directly beside where the ground strap mounts. The other end of this ground strap goes to the coil mounting bracket.

Look forward to your thoughts.

Yeah, it's this thing, but I have a feeling he is referring to something else.

DR.ZED, if it is by the braided ground wire on the chassis, wouldn't it be under the ABS and not the cruise?

There was nothing like that on my 94 Formula when I deleted the AIR system. I never had any "recall" work done.

No its something else gents.

A digi-cam would be handy eh?

If you follow the braided ground strap from the coil to where it meets the body, this sensor (remember 94), is directly BESIDE the ground strap.

There are two vacuum lines that connect to it, ONE receives air from the OUT side of the air pump. The other side, seems blocked or a restricted outlet somehow that goes nowhere.

Got it.

The part is #21 on this picture

But its listed for OBDII cars, which was my first thought when I saw it. It definately looked like it was "checking" whether the air pump was pumping air.

Mine is a 94.... yet that part is not listed on the diagram of the 94. My car was built in Oct. of 93.

The listing for 96 and 97 shows the part as this:

The part description

... I read that as being a bleed valve.

... and sort of
