Mr. Gasket - Head Gasket... defect?

I just opened my Mr. Gasket Head Gasket set from Summit Racing.
PN - MRG 5716

When I carefully peeled off the plastic covering, the black coating peeled off with the covering.

The black coating seems to be "powdery" and not an adhesive like the Fel-Pros. I'm wondering if this is a critical issue. Honestly, I don't feel comfortable with any separation of materials. However, I'm wondering if this is normal for a Mr. Gasket product. And if they are supposed to have the black powder come off.

The ones I got from Autozone (only $47.99 there) had the gaskets in a seperate bag and didn't have that issue.

Your gaskets were packaged individually? Wow, mine came 2 in one package. I didn't bother peeling the rest of the plastic off as soon as I saw some of the black come off.

Well known issue, Summit had so many free replacements and return shipping charges that last I looked they has doubled the price on those gaskets.
2 years ago they were $35 a pair, last I looked Summit wanted $70.

Victor Rienz sells the exact same gasket individually loosly packed, bought them from NAPA for like $22 apiece. Don't remeber the PN just I posted it here within the last couple weeks so a search will turn it up quickly.

Summit knows about the problem, call them they will send a second set you keep one good one out of each and they have UPS come pickup the bad ones for return. I would consider just outright returning them and getting the individual ones from Victor Rienz or Autozone as suggested above.

Some seperation is OK but they usually peal a LOT.

Summit must still be selling the old ones? Mine from Autzone fell right out of the pack.

These are actually a Victor Reinz gasket, I made a post/thread about it a while back.
