Moving to California - Emissions Questions??

What can and what can I not do to MOD my factory stock original 1995 Camaro B4C - if I move from Illinois to California?

I just recently passed emissions in IL, have a job offer to move to CA, but what will I have to do to the car to pass CA emissions?

What exactly are the CA emissions laws?

Anything else I need to know?

Should I have the work done in IL (cheaper, I assume) before I move or wait until I pass the CA emissions tests?

Finally, anyone from Calabasas area with good/bad things to tell me about the area before I commit?

All help greatly appreciated!!

Callabasas is 5 minutes away from me. Its VERY expensive
and very nice. hot (its 92* now) Parts of the SanFernando valley are great , drive 5 minutes and your in shltzville. Im part of a local car club GMeternal we have about 100 members, we do cruises, car shows, drag racing(legal)

passing smog in ca is a pain in the a**.

You cant move the stock location of catalytic converters, so say goodbye to longtubes

Emmission requirements in general are stiffer due to the rediculous amounts of people over here

Good luck with your car, it seems like everytime i get excited about doing a new project on my car, i find out that my car will never pass smog if i do it!

oh well, CA is still the best state.

Yeah, CA smog laws can suck. But what fun is it to drive a stock car? It's not like you can't pass with mods. You just have to do the legal ones. Shorty headers are about your only option, but as you can see from the sig, they do work OK. The biggest thing that will kill you is the cam. Go too big, and you have to find "alternate" ways of passing....

ttt

Thanks for your replies! Anyone else?

Here's the mods I'm planning for my stock '95 B4C (w/ 17K miles):

SLP CAI
SLP 1LE ELBOW
Hypertech 160 stat
Mufflex 3 1/2 or ATR catback
Basic pcm tune
PRO 50 short shifter

Anything else I should add at this time to avoid duplicate labor later on? Anything I should skip for now (i.e. not worth it)?

I've searched the various threads and it's hard to separate the "myths" from true performance improvements.

Anything that might affect emissions for CA inspection?

Cool

Bend over and grab your lug nuts, because you about to get an overhaul.(From the movie the Mask)Ha Ha.Really though, just before you go,change the oil,and let the car get real hot.By this I mean, don't just drive to the check station, but let it rip before you get checked, and let the car idle in the parking lot of the place your being tested at.Let all the fans come on and then drive in for the test. You will get a cleaner test.My02

Of all the mods you listed, only the tuning could have any negative effect. If you have a good cat and legal mods you will not have a problem passing smog.

hey RKB4C
look me up when you come out here. I got a service station that is mod friendly, dont get me wrong they have to report if your car is burning bad to the DMV but they are mod friendly as long as it passes......

Aren't emissions about to get a whole lot tougher to pass? I heard something about putting cars on a dyno for smog sometime soon? And that having LTs and such were gonna be even harder to get away with
