motor pulling question

I am getting ready to pull my motor out, and I have one question(using a happy hooker).
Is it easier to pull out motor and trans or just motor?
I has an M6
I want to make this as painless as possible.

I just pulled the whole thing out from the bottom, motor and tranny. Used the engine lift to lift the body up over the k member with the motor and stuff.

Definitely MUCH easier after you remove the tranny. You can take the motor out without even removing the hood. Go in sort of from the driver's side/front at about a 45 degree angle. I don't even use a j-hook although the front of the motor does have to come up slightly more than the rear. Also, to make things easier, take off the intake while it's still in the car. It just makes things easier. Oh, be careful on the back - your oil pressure sender. It's easy to get it caught back there and ruined. Once the motor is up and off the mounts, turn it sideways and then pull it on out.

I'd second pulling it out of the bottom as well. Some pics on the second page in my link if interested in seeing it pulled.

Not if you pull it out the top. People do it both ways.

I am pulling the motor out from the top.
Removing it from under the car is not an option for me.
I have nobody to help me. I am just curious if it is easier to pull just motor or motor and trans.
My car is a stick.
