Re: Motor mounts

I guess it depends what you would consider hard. I did mine when I had the headers out, and the tranny out for a clutch swap. They were pretty easily actually....if you have headers...especially LT's it will not be fun for you.

Hey where's the Z been lately? I haven't seen it at your work in a while...

I'm taking leave next week and will be doing my cam swap.

Re: Motor mounts

It got a new rear end in it and now a bushing in the rear of the tranny is being replaced. They have to have one made because GM mad it a non replaceable part, so I'm waiting on the machine shop. Once I get it back, are we on for the intake seal?

Re: Motor mounts

Yep, just have to juggle a day in there. I figure I should be done no later than Tuesday if all goes well with the cam swap. It will either run like a bat outta hell or it won't run at all...who knows, this is my first time changing a cam in a V8 car.

Re: Motor mounts

Hotcam. BTW, most of the replies I've seen on this board since I've been on it regarding motor mounts is they're a PITA. But, if you've changed spark plug wires and plugs on these cars, how hard could it be....hehe

Are you using the stock mounts from the dealer? I am not sure if they sell the entire thing as a unit or if they just sell the inserts. If you are going to use the poly mounts, then you will have to drill the "rivets" out and seperate the plates to get the mounts out. Prothane makes a kit, I believe Part3 508 thru summit for 39.95. It will come with the necessary hardware and destructions to do the job.

Re: Motor mounts

yes i also bought the Prothane mounts from www.thunderracing.com and i have changed spark plugs, wires, opti sparks, LT's, catbacks, and I thought that the were a pain in the ***.... Yes you have to drill out the rivets, that was easy, the only hard part is that I couldnt align the 3 bolts that bolt-on to the K member; maybe its because i was doing it by myself???? other than that if you have a buddy there it should be fairly easy.... ENJOY

Re: Motor mounts

I didnt think they were that bad had I not messed around trying to get out. I was determined to get the bushing out of the mounting bracket w/o unbolting the bracket from the block b/c I believed it would be a PITA that way.. well I found out its the only way and really is quite easy. The only other hard part and probably the worst step of the entire process is getting that large bolt back thru the mount... i had a hell of a time lining it up perfectly. good luck! btw I went with the prothane mounts
