Motor mount questions
Motor mount questions
I'm looking at replacing the motor mounts on my 93 T/A and priced them at my local parts store. Mike behind the counter gave me a " Holy Cow" when he saw the price so I knew that wasn't a good sign, they want $120 a piece, I've seen them at GM Direct for $90 including shipping. Is this the best price everybody is finding? Also I'm hoping to lift the front of the engine enough to clear the mounts and replace them. What's the tricks I should know or is it pretty straight forward. Thanks for the help.
When you try to pull the long bolts out of the motor mounts, they will not come out all the way, unless you turn the steering wheel to full lock, first on one side, then opposite full lock on the other.
You can get Energy Suspension polyurethane inserts for your stock clam-shells for a bit less than the factory parts.

I don't know anything about that shop and I am not endorsing them, but it was one place where I could find a part # and price.

I use prothane motor mounts as opposed to the energy suspension brand that Fred suggested but both are good products. I had a difficult time lining up the engine and k-member sides of the mounts at first but was able to adjust the engine height with a jack to get the bolts through. Like what has been said, poly is a great upgrade and cheaper than stock parts. The poly mounts come with instructions on installation into the factory clam-shells so its very straightforward.
I went with the Energy Suspension polyurethane inserts on the motor mount and also the polyurethane trans mount. They are holding up great even on nitrous. The motor mounts were tuff to line up. I removed the trans mount and was able to line the motor mounts up. LF
