motor blew today
No Oil pressure Loud Pop and Engine dead
driving at cruise speed about 45 mph suddenly the engine pops and dies on me. i throw it into neutral and tried to restart it but doesnt get about 200 rpms and there was NO oil pressure at all. i coasted it to the side. no leaks anywhere so i didnt blow a hole, what do you guys think? oil pump went and spun a bearing?

sure it wasnt ignition or fuel first?
when my MSD 6al went (starting the car after driving for a few miles)
it was chug chug then it sounded like someone just let a big bag of air go (car was throwing gas and still turning but wasnt firing all the way or something) then it went to 200 rpm and oil pressure wouldnt go above **** unless i kept cranking
drop the pan if u heard metal banging pop lol

i definately heard a pop from the engine like something popping loose. fuel is good, oil pressure doesnt budge, i got it up to 1000 rpms for a few seconds and nothing, sending unit is new. engines not stuck but theres nothing leaking. i dont know how long the oil pessure was like that i jsut noticed it after the pop and i didnt see it moving down it was already there. its been running really rough lately, was thinking it was the opti going real rough acceleration misfires and stuff. replaced plugs and wires. not sure on motor miles entimate at 100k i been running with the exhaust ending at the cat because i havent had my welder to put my bullet muffler back on so tehres alot of backpressure plus i have an exhaust leak on the back passenger manifold because of a sheared bolt. ive been planning to rebuild but i just needed it for 4 more weeks for welding school then it was going in the garage. i know its not getting ANY oil pressure i was thinking it was the shaft but im afraid something spun when i heard that pop because i dont know how long the engine was at no pressure i wasnt accelerating i was coasting off an exit ramp.
would it be hard to drop the pan in the car with a tubular k-member? i know theres lots of clearance but i havent been under it in 6 months. i know i know i shouldnt have ran it with all those problems but it was my only car and i was planning on a rebuild anyways just gunna step it up a little sooner
forgot to mention this oil gauge run a little low after warmed up ussually about 10 and at around wot maybe gets to 30

so anyone have any idea on what the damage might be. i mean i know i gotta rip it all down, but any idea on just how bad it is right now
so is there a chance its the coil,
"If the problem gets worse as the engine warms up, to the point where the engine dies and won't restart, you might have a bad coil."
that sometimes happened, but it beyond that now?
sorry for posting so much im just trying to get a damage report before i dig into it tom. morning i cant afford to miss school

Pull the coil wire off the opti side. Jam a screw driver into the opti side of the wire coupler end. hold the screwdriver so it is like a 1/4" away from a good ground. Have someone crank it. It should arc from the screwdriver to the ground.
Easier to just pull a plug wire though, and stick an old plug in it, and crank it to see if you gots spark.
Whats your fuel pressure look like? Can you hear the pump prime when you turn the key to on? Will it fire on starter fluid (Be Cafeful you dont catch anything on fire trying this lol)

If you are showing no oil pressure the last thing you want to do is run it. You need to find out what is causing that problem.
I'd pull the PCM fuse, pull the valve covers, have some one turn it over, and see if oil comes to the top end.
If you have no oil there...next pull the oil pan. Heck, the pickup may have simply fell off the oil pump(as far as the no oil pressure goes).
Without any knocking, I'm not sure I'd suspect a bearing. I guess they can go bad and not make any noise...but most guys report noise when spinning or having bearing problems....however, I could be wrong.

I just did a little checking for you.....
I started my Z and the oil pressure went to 70 PSI cold(my pressure is high for an LT1....running 5W-30...35 PSI at idle hot).
I stopped it, pulled the PCM fuse, and just cranked it....the oil pressure slowly built up to 40 PSI. So, if all is well with the system, you should see it go up....
Now, I did try it without "starting" first.....I never got a reading until it fired up. My guess is that after the car sits for a while it takes quite a bit of normal "cranking" to build pressure without "firing" it normally.

well i found out that within that exact moment my car got screwed my sending unit for the pressure cracked in two. so that the problem there. im gunna replace the opti and coil and a full tune-up and see how it runs

wow! 70PSI, mine is at like 30 cold idle, 10 or so warm idle. IIRC, LT1s are supposed to be like 7-12 hot idle
