Motor bites the dust after cam install

Well, the motor died tonight. Just put in a CC305 a week ago. Car was running great, even more driveable than the stock cam. Went street racing tonight and beat a MKIII with an SP63 @ 13psi. He said it made 318 rwhp at that boost, and I pulled pretty decent. He upped the boost to 16, my car started to knock, and boy did he leave me.
Anywho, I'm going to tear it down tommorow and see what may have happened. I refuse to accept the fact that by simply putting a cam in, it caused it to spin a bearing. It did loose oil pressure too. Not sure why yet, but will post back.

Anyone have any motor parts for sale?

How high were you spinning the motor?

I 2nd the stroker idea. Sorry to hear it! Glad mine spun when it did cause I was getting ready to do a heads and cam on my original motor about a week before it blew.

Yeah, I am going to lay the mystery behind this hopefully. My friend's dad has built and dissassembled thousands of motors, so hopefully he can shed some light on what caused it. I had the rev limiter at 6600, but it was that high with the stock cam, though it didn't make power that high, I just didn't want to hit it when racing. Shifting around 6400ish, which to me isn't very high. I can't decide if I am going to do a stroker or not. It will only add about $200 to the total amount if I use a 9000 series Scat crank. If I can't do heads at the same time, I probably will not do the stroker, car would be a torque monster with no power. I'd really like to use a forged eagle crank, my friends 351 stroker has one and the machine shop said the new eagles are fantastic. They were able to zero balance it with no mallory metal. What I REALLY want would be a zero balanced 383 with some AFR 215RRs and a carb style intake, but I don't think the budget will allow it. We'll see.

Same thing happened to me 10 days after my cam install. It was ONE single rod bearing that went bad. Sorry for your loss.

Worn bearings+new cam+higher revs+not enough oil pressure=spun bearing

Been there. Spun that.

I'm using an Eagle 4340 forged crank and its survived two stroker motors. Good crank for the money

Man it sucks that happened.. My bet is a cam bearing was nicked when the cam went in.. I have seen it happen with these LT1 cars too many times.. Usually they will run a couple weeks then go out.

Cam install blown motor?

I've read on here where people have done heads/cam swaps and in the process of cleaning the deck surfaces and piston tops with the scotch bright pads it leaves abrasives which then tear up the bearings forcing complete rebuilds. But this is the first I've heard of it happening from just a cam swap. Unless you used scotch bright to clean your intake surfaces.
