Is Motive the best brand of 4.10 gears to buy?

hey guys, i'm looking for a brand new set of 4.10 gears with the full installation kit with the solid shim. i found a set with the descripion:
Motive Gear Ring and Pinion GM 10 Bolt 7 1/2 - 7 5/8
for $165 shipped (brand new) from an individual....
-is this the best brand of ring and pinion to get?
-is there anywhere that sells the gear-set for less than $165 shipped?

for the installation kit, will any brand work well (like Ratech from Thunder Racing.com or SLP's from Tbyrne motorsports.com)?

considering the modifications listing in my signature along with the new 4.10 gears and 275 street tires, do i need to get a T/A Rear end cover/girdle? what will the benefits be?
thanks much guys.

Motive is a very nice gear. I have also had good success with Precision Gears (http://www.precisiongear.com/)

I have 4.10 motives w/ my M6 and haven't had trouble from them in 2 years. Great gears IMO. Also, I'd recommend a rear end girdle. Better safe than sorry, and it can only help, not hurt...

I also had Motives for about 5 years with no whine or problems.

All the many people with quiet Strange gears might disagree.

Strange is one of the best gears on the market... Strange Engineering period is one of the best rearend manufacturers out there, Heck I'd buy Mark Williams stuff if they made gears for our cars, but Strange is just as good, if not better for street cars.

I know TONS of people with quiet Strange gears... just not personally in a 4th gen.

Heck all the guys I know around here with "real" cars... are ALL running Strange internals in their rears, and not one whines.

99.99% of the whine is from the setup of the gears, not the gears themselves.

Some gears do whine though, it's in the design on how the gear was cut. Some styles make more noise than others, But in reality if a gear setup makes noise it's not setup correct, or something's wrong. Most typical gear problems stem from incorrect shiming/pre-loading.

Ive heard on this board several times they were noisy, and my only personal experience was my buddy Andys on his 93, after the install his car got considerbly "whinnier". I know all about the whine because before I got my 373 motives installed I had a noisy a$$ set of richmonds(broke teeth after I put nittos on) previously on my old 97. Never said anything about strange's quality, that ive always heard was good.

Thats where i just bought mine, good people to deal with, but havent installed the gear yet, i got the installation kit on thunder racing for like $120 or so and bought a solid pinion spacer...im about to buy the T/A girdle from there too, I like them.
