Moroso CAI and Trick Flow Elbow
So I am attempting to install my Trick Flow elbow and Moroso CAI. I got everything out of their respective boxes, and neatly organized them on my bench.......... I decided to carefully piece everything together under the hood before I started drilling holes. I have the lower facia removed, the old air box and duct work removed..... There is NO WAY I can cram this intake and elbow into where the stock unit was. I need another 3 inches or so (that's what my wife says...lol). The MAF is what has everything screwed up. I have the base plate slid AS FAR to the left side of the car as I can get it. It's like the duct is too long. I checked the part number on the box, and it matches the part number for the 94-up. Is it possible that they put a 93 duct (which is longer) in my box? I guess my question is this..... How much wiggle room is there?? I assumed that with the rubber sleeves, I would have a LITTLE bit of play...... I threw the rubber sleeves on the floor, and I STILL can't make the elbow, MAF and duct fit in the allotted space. Let me start with this......"ANYONE WITH A TRICK FLOW AND MOROSO CAI..... HOW MUCH PLAY IS THERE?"
I sent ward pics for ID. didn't mean to come off like a jerk....frusterating when you drop close to 300 for a minimal performance gain...with a 10 minute bolt on that takes the afternoon. Keep the answers coming. I still need to know how much play there is......... I assume it's tight...but right now, even if I could cram it in.... the hood wouldn't shut. Maybe someone put a different MAF on it....... I am lost.
not sure if its the same but you may need to cut the elbow. when i put the vortech one on my ss it said you had to cut off an inch for the ss or leave it alone for a z28. turns out i had to cut like 3 inches off
It's possible that the Moroso CAI you have is actually the one for the 93 which doesn't have a MAF sensor. When I set up mine with an aluminum elbow, I had to cut some length off the end of the Moroso CAI that mates up to the MAF. It was easy to modify, but like you, I was frustrated by what should have been a simple bolt on with no fitment issues.
Can't cut the elbow. It has a 'formed' lip on it. Would be better off to cut the Moroso duct. 200 bucks and requires hacksaw modificaton? I guess my expectations are too high. I figure that the 69.95 CAI's on Ebay might require a little 'persuasion' with a torch, hammer, hacksaw, etc.... but for 200 beans, I'd like to just 'bolt on' and be done.

I saw the pic and I think it is for the 93.
I got my Moroso off of a junked 93 and had to cut some of the round plastic piping off of the outlet side of the CAI where the MFA needs to interface. I will bet thats what is going on with the OP. Just use a small hand saw to cut the required amount off.
Again I had the Moroso and the same elbow and had no trouble at all.
The bad thing about the aluminum is it will not stretch any or contour like the rubber bellowed part will on the stocker. IMHO, the stock rubber elbow and the LE elbow are superior to the aluminum elbow because there is more square area for air to flow and it wont heat soak. The aluminum elbow is for appearance only. I sold mine to go back to the rubber LE elbow that does not have the horse sch long hanging from the bottom.

I've used this setup on 2 separate cars, one 95 and one 96. In both cases, I had to cust a sizeable amount of material off the end of the Moroso CAI. Several others that I know had to do the same. Two minutes with a hacksaw is all it takes.
So I attempted to install the CAI with the factory elbow. IF I smash the accordians on the elbow, cram the CAI into the corner, the elbow still won't sit flush with the throttle body, BUT it technically works. lol. I think that I have the 93 Moroso. I have to return some lug nuts to Jegs anyway, so I am sending this POS back for another. If I get the same one back, a little hack saw trimming is in order.
Thanks guys.

Just cut the thing and be done with it. It is not uncommon to half to modify NON OEM spec aftermarket parts to make them work regardless of price.
