more oil problems

ok, i have a freshly rebuilt LT1 with GTP custom cam and a melling HV oil pump, i did replace the pump shaft with the ARP hardened one and i got the larger pickup to go with the melling pump, and now when im at a light (forgive me i dont know the numerical equivilent for the lines on the stock gauge) it will be just above the first orange line, and when i am driving normal it gets just below the first white line and when i get on it it gets just above the first white line. i scanned it and it didnt say anything about the sending unit being bad. when i get in the car in the morning and the motors cold i have good pressure but as it warms up i loose it all, i changed the oild in hopes that would fix it but it didnt help at all. im not driving it anymore because i had the motor rebuilt due to sudden oilpressure lost, and spun 4 or 5 bearings, so this problem reallllly has me concerned. any thoughts?

also ment to add, when the motor was rebuilt, i had it machined and the clearences checed and it was all fine, i also had new clevite bearings installed all around, theres no shavings in the oil and theres no metal on metal sound. unfortunantly i know all to well the sound of a spun bearing and i dont hear any of that

Re: more oil problems

Are you using a larger oil pan with that HV pump? If not, you could starve your motor of oil. It happened to me and I have 8 scored piston skirts and one spun rod bearing to prove it.

oh god, i got an HV oil pump to save me from my last disaster of loosing almost all my bearings, and now thats going to be what causes it?!

Re: more oil problems

Put a manual guage on it and see what it says.
Not likely to have starvation problems at idle or cruise.

Correct me if I am wrong but shoudl he have installed a high pressure oil pump rather and I thought there was a difference between a high pressure and a high volume oil pump????

Re: more oil problems

That could be I am not that knowledgable about built engines I have someone do mine and he recommends whatever I need and then I assemble it myself. My stock car only had a 7 quart pan and he recommended a high pressure as he mentioned a high volume could empty the pan and run dry before the oil made it back down. We did clean up the oil return holes etc but you run a stock car motor from 4-6000 around the track it may be different than a drag or street motor.
