more car starting problems....

Well, for the past 3 weeks my car has been a bitch! I've made a few posts over these weeks, but heres the summary. Breakdown 1: blown ignition switch. Breakdown 2: shorted the starter out the nite after the ignition switch install. Breakdown 3: blew the fusible link under the hood thats connected to the starter.

Breakdown (sort of) 4: Car made half a start and wouldnt start afterwards. When I turned the key to start, the headlights would dim which tells me that power is being sent to the starter (therefore, ignition switch and clutch sensor should both be working). I tried this several times when out of nowhere the car just randomly started on one of the tries. I yanked the starter off and took it to the place I got it from (at this point I assumed the new starter was junk). They tested it, and its A-ok. I put the starter on and all is well........until about 10 starts later.

Damn thing made a half a start as I was trying to leave the gas station today. After pushing it from under the pumps (yeah!!!) and several failed attempts at starting it, the damn thing just out of no where starts. Not to take any chances I drive it home. I try it again at home, and sure enough the ***** wont start again. Try it a good 15 times and it eventually made a half a start followed by a successful start on the next attempt.

So now, here I am wondering whats up with my car again for the 9th time this month!!!!

Re: more car starting problems....

You just changed the starter and related components so logic would dictate it's more probably something related to that, but hard starts like that have indicated in the past on my car a fuel pump issue. Usually when the pump dies it just won't start at all though. Can you hear the pump whirring when you put the ignition to the on position? Maybe a loose wiring connection somewhere? Just throwing some ideas out there...

The pump does prime up when I turn the key on, as well as the radio, gauge lights etc etc. Its just the odd time when I go to start it, nothing happens (not even a clicking or whining from the starter).

I talked to a bud and he said perhaps there is some corrosion on the battery terminals or a wire has become corroded/burnt somewhere.
