more 355 build questions
alright this one might draw some heated debate seeing as there are people around here that use both, im shooting for an engine with 500rwhp out of a forged bottom end 355. you guys throw advanced induction and Lloyd Elliots company around, who has the better heads/cam packages?
Re: more 355 build questions
Both are good and well respected, lloyd seems to be more popular he is a little cheaper than Advanced, but either way either company can get you to where your trying to go
Re: more 355 build questions
Your not going to see 500rwhp out of a HR 355 without spray. Only way i can see hitting that target will be going with as SR setup. Ive seen some wild 383 HR setups in the 460rwhp range. My point is the easiest way about going about making a 355 hit 500rwhp its much eaiser with a SR setup and wont have to run as much of radical heads/cam setup to get there.
Re: more 355 build questions
You don't need a wild setup to hit 450whp (nothing wild about my setup, just good parts that work together), but that extra 50HP is VERY hard to come by N/A. Solid roller, some serious heads, single plane intake and RPMs, and you can get there. A 355 is at a disadvantage due to the smaller displacement/shorter stroke, so they make up for it with RPMs. Don't plan on using an opti or stock LT1 PCM, because you're going to need to spin it WELL beyond their capabilities.
Aleks' old combo (500whp SR 355) spun past 8k IIRC.

Re: more 355 build questions
I believe Aleks' first combo did it with a the stock pcm and opti.
500 to the wheels can be done. Like the above said, your starting at a disadvantage with the short stroke and nearly stock bore. Good flowing heads and aand rpm will get you there.

Re: more 355 build questions
Alek's setup peaked below 7000rpms but was spun to maybe 7500 on purpose, no doubt it saw 8000 on a missed shift or driveline breakage a time or two. Once all tweaked I think it was like 499SAE.
AI is where the smart money is but I think you are going to be surprised at just what it costs to set a car up for this sort of thing.

Re: more 355 build questions
haha thanks for all the info on it, Ramair: yea the pcm is going to be tuned, and i dont know about the opti.. maybe just spin it and pray?? haha ok not the best idea but any idea on how to go about being able to run the high rpm required... i was guessing i would be spinning around 7000rpm on a large heads/cam setup to get relativly close
Re: more 355 build questions
or should i think about running a 383 stroker kit? i was originally going to do that and then i went to a 355 running higher rpm, but maybe the 383 is a better idea? and spray is not out the question either... but that will be down the road a ways
Re: more 355 build questions
ya i know its not gonna be cheap. Another question, i was going threw AI's site last night and i noticed they have rotating kits avalible. what do you guys think of this option, or do you think i could piece one together cheaper? I have yet to really look into the bottom end as far as parts go, I know everything is going to have to be forged, and i know all the brand name parts
Re: more 355 build questions
Dang right. It's been way more expensive than what I originally thought just to setup what little I have done to my Z28. Money goes fast in this hobby.
Re: more 355 build questions
I'm shooting for 430-450 N/A and then I'm going to hit it with 150-200 shot to make up the differance. This is my plan: 355, stock crank, ARP bolts, Scat I Beam rods, light weight Speed Pro pistons 30 over with file fit rings, LE2 heads and Intake( I already have these), GM 847 and all the other things to go with it... I figure $3000.00(in Canada) will tie it up, but well see.

Re: more 355 build questions
Sean: yea i would hit up the nitrous right away to except its not street legal here and from what i understand if you get caught with it hooked up in the town i live in you get impounded
... so thats not happening.... for a while anyway

think this is worth the money, or would it be possible to put a similar rotating kit together cheaper from somewhere else?
