mono-bladed stock TB unit?

any of you people who bore stock units ever make a mono blade stock unit? i'm thinking of taking my stock unit to a local machine shop to see if he can make me a mono blade stock unit for less than the 700 AS&M one that's out there.

i know this would be difficult, and i havent heard of it being done yet, but i'm willing to pay for what i want done. if anyone has done this or knows if it has been done, please chime in.

Re: mono-bladed stock TB unit?

I'm one of the guys that bores them to 52mm and sells them on ebay. I have been looking to do that to a stock casting for a while but havn't yet because there are a few things that need worked out. Both the IAC passage and the upper breather passage would be cut open leaving about half the hole on each side of the mono blade. This would cause major problems with the way the throttle body functions. I have a few ideas on how to fix the problem but havn't worked on it because I didn't think there would be that much interest in it.

Why would you want a monoblade on a mostly stock car?

And most of the people I've seen that have the monoblades have motors so large I dont think they are really worried about the IAC functioning.

I have seen it done, a fellow i bought wheels from in Michigan had one he made. Limige I think was his name on here. He also had a Viper engine in his garage I wonder if it ever made it into his LT1...

Re: mono-bladed stock TB unit?

A stock TB flows about 625cfm

A 52mm tb flows about 750cfm

A 58mm TB flows about 875cfm

A mono blade TB flows about 1100cfm

Unless your planning on a head/cam swap you won't even exceed the flow capacity of your stock unit any time soon.

Re: mono-bladed stock TB unit?

i've done more than just a head/cam swap guys ...i havent updated cz28.com in forever. i think that's from when i bought the car and was new to the site...4 years ago. any way, i have a 383 with ported heads, mid-length headers, CC306 cam, stock TB , and stock intake manifold

when i find out if it can be done and if it gets done, i'll buy a used intake manifold, port the chambers, and cut out the holes for the TB.

I've been wondering the same thing for some time too. 97pontta, I think there would be more interest than you think, especially if you could keep the price around $200. I'd buy one!

I'll take alittle closer look at it if there is alittle interest. But like stated above a 58mm flows well enough for a very large amount of HP. My 52mm flows more than well enough for my 430HP setup. But I will look into it, maybe start doing some testing.

sweet. thanks, i've been interested for a while. i've been talking to the locals and they dont think it's possible to port to 52mm, so i'm not going to trust them to "experiment" with the only one i have on hand...

Re: mono-bladed stock TB unit?

yeah you can port to 52mm on a stock TB but the difference is when you buy an aftermarket such as a BBK or something like that the blades are 52mm also, If you prt a stok unit the blades stay the same size so the air would still only be flowing through the 48mm opening.....so it really wont make any difference...plus then you would have to open up the hole on the intake manifold if you go over anything more than a 52mm....I wouldn't worry about the TB, have you had the computer reprogramed for the mods you have?, If not I would spend money on that cause you will see WAY better gains than you would from a TB.....just my thinking

Re: mono-bladed stock TB unit?

the port openings in the manifold are for 52mm, any bigger and you have to port the manifold too. the stock unit can be ported to 52mm, but the blades have to be custom cut and mounted on the throttle shaft. that's the difficult part, but it's happening all the time.

the ecm has been reprogrammed by madwolf...he did an excelent job
